Was Burns only a loan? Never realised. Then again I always thought his famous tackle photo was in our kit.
    Am getting old

I always thought that he was here for the season.
According to Wikipedia he played 21 games for us 1984/5 season.

A quick Google search has thrown up this old thread about him.

Well that's interesting, he played more games than I can remember
But can remember the 2 footed tackle to get sent off classic.

Nope he’s a dreadful defender. Slow. Always out of position. Good footballer. Can pick a pass but at defending we have had less than 10 clean sheets in the 60 odd consecutive games he played in.

How many clean sheets in the games he hasn't played in?

DC said in presser yesterday he would miss next 3 games so doesn’t sound like, they will appeal.
If Roberts also took it upon himself to apologise suggests he thinks he made a mistake too.

Takes so much more than 1 defender to keep a clean sheet. Our defence is left totally isolated with our midfield at times, teams just cut straight through us. Mael is a good defender. Dont get the stick. The last 2 games without him just makes my opinion stronger on that bud.

Not for me Baz tbh. I understand why you are saying what you do. But certainly not the answer. I just think this defence are not gelling. Pines got hammered on here after Tuesday. But the consensus around me, was, he wasn't the worst. I've not seen the penalty since. But from what I remember. The penalty came about from the defence falling asleep at the throw in.
In the first half he, other than killip kept em at bay. We we were dire down the wings free to get balls into the box at will. Roberts was having an absolute mare. Unable to keep tabs on his man.

We were a lot better in the second half as the midfield decided to start playing.
And the winner the inexplicable mistake by McCarthy.

Yeah it’s all opinions but if I were analysing a failing team I’d look at constant factors. Great footballer awful defender.

Since formation in 1887? Quite a few.

From memory we kept 3 out of 5 before he started his run of games but that’s just from memory.

For me our defenders are poor...all of them...majority of our goals conceded are from defending mistakes, poor marking from the back 3 or goalkeeper errors...we should be going out and buying stevenage's centre back Pierregiani...he's class and value is £175k

Spot on with Mcarthy I was fuming when he gave the ball away, then to concede ,Pines was no where near the attacker ,it was a free header,so both defenders poor for the late goal, penalty was like a bull in a China shop.

How do you know his value is 175k mate?

Edit - Roberts is supposed to be our big brute btw. Tackle, header, strong. But has been very poor since his return. Not had the impact a lot of fans thought he would
