I know our lack of continuity has been a big part of our regression in recent years. So my inclination has been to be patient. But he has to go I’m afraid. No plan B and and I still haven’t worked out what plan A is yet! I get he’s been badly let down this transfer window. But we’ve still some good players here and he’s not getting a tune out of them.
I've seen little this season to suggest he's a good manager. But he's also been utterly shafted by our board. And some pathetic performances from players who have the ability, but not the drive, to be better.
Sorry but it is has to down to the players. We can't keep saying this manager can't get a tune out of them, sack him, bring another in and say the same old boring line. It's time the players put some real determination in on the field. Sick of seeing half hearted tackles, absolute wimps in midfield. Only player who Clarke has been backed with is DKD, we need 2 or 3 fresh faces in and move the same out even if that means leaving for nowt or even contracts mutually terminated.
plan A seems to be Earl or MDG chips it into channel with a 10% accuracy, ball comes back inside and then hope for enough space for a shot somewhere around the D, if we get a set piece the players will then improvise like u16s
Yes but it's part of the managers job to motivate the players to show some passion and fight and clearly he isn't doing that. If I was the head coach and saw players being half hearted they'd get one warning then they'd be dragged off. He basically sat on his hands for 80 minutes and did nothing.
Its a conundrum. Yes the manager sets them up and instructs them but if the players are palpably not doing basic things correctly is that the manager's fault or not? Its tempting to blame the manager (I did it with Collins) but would someone else get a better tune out of this crop? There's no one up front, some weak defenders, a lack of pace and mobility in all areas and a lack of shithousery. This is the legacy that Clarke has inherited. Someone else may do better with the players but equally someone else may actually make them worse. Completely disillusioned as I am I would stick with Clarke this season and actually back him properly in the summer both a) to get people out and b) to get people in. If the team are still dreadful by next Xmas after he's had more time Id get rid. So, for me, I'd keep him in post. The ultimate buck stops at the board not the manager. If the board sack him they're trying to hide from criticism. Clarke may not be very good but he might be better with support. We should see.
Can’t work out the subs today. I know we didn’t have loads of options but to make the subs we did was strange. I was thinking I wonder if it’s to make a point to the board.
That crossed my mind. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s waved his **** to the detriment of the team.
Yes, I know there’s millions of examples of clubs changing the head coach/manager and with the exact same players seeing absolutely totally different team play and results, but I’m sure that’s not the case here. Definitely down to us having worse players who cannot be bothered then Burton, Crawley, Bristol Rovers - we can’t compete with clubs like that, unreasonable to expect anything else from the coach, definitely not his fault .
But the question begged is what does Clarke coach the players, as far as I can see it's absolutely nothing, only pass sideways and back
Has it crossed anyone's mind, that maybe it's the ability of the players that is lacking? Let's be honest, they're 3rd division players for a reason. As a collective, they're currently not good enough to play at a higher level. And maybe the head coach is not capable of coaching at a higher level. But let's at least give him the tools to find out, and give him a fighting chance. I've not seen a head coach have such a 1 dimensional squad at Oakwell for a number of years. Purely my opinion, and I'm sure many will disagree. I just hope the recruitment team at least give him a fighting chance to prove the doubters wrong.
Yeah I've thought the same as well. If they do stick with him for next season (which I doubt they will do), they must also back him and give him at least a third of the season. Otherwise we will never ever improve as a club, under these owners current ideas.
It will be dependant on season ticket sales, when we start inching towards end of season and early bird tickets get announced and we’re still playing poorly he’ll get sack and replaced by Hourihane to end of season.
Exactly this. If sales are poor, which they will be, plan B will be a fans hero at the helm. That’s been the back up plan all along I reckon, Not sure folk will buy into this time though.
Seen a interview I think it was this week where Clarke mentioned three windows to get what he wants/needs. I think that's fair so next season is the acid test for the Mladen Clarke combo if this time next season we aren't bang in the mix one needs to go. If Clarke is given the tools to do the job and fails he has to go but if he isn't Mladen must be carry the can.
I totally agree with what your saying but unless we can work miracles today and tomorrow , I think the writing is on the wall for Clarke.
