Your right it’s not easy but good managers rise to the occasion, they have there plan and stick to it, unfortunately Clarke is trying to implement other people’s plans with players we can all see are not that good for the plan Good teams stick to their plans and bring in players to fit it We don’t seem to do that
Nwakali should have come off 10 minutes earlier. He was knackered & we were looking vulnerable to the counter attack in them 10 minutes. Just because someone is playing well & is one of the better players at the moment doesn’t mean you leave him on if he’s knackered. I think fear of a negative crowd reaction stopped him from making the sub sooner.
I do agree. To not change anything until the 80th minute (I think) and then take off a player to the boos of the fans. Humphrys was doing nothing, but lose the ball. I'm sure Dyer could have done that, and maybe with some more enthusiasm.
Booing the substitution was shameful. I like Nwakali but he was not influencing the game in the latter stages and the manager had to do something- could have taken quite a few off to be fair. Also making him MOM rediculous -DKD was head and shoulders the best player today.
I ask myself this - who do I think is more likely to score, DKD (who hasn't played well) and Humphrys (who I don't really like, rarely plays well, and hasn't played well today) or Cosgrove and Dyer? And my answer is DKD and Humphrys. Every single time. Even though they're playing crap, I'd back that pair every time to get a goal before Cosgrove and Dyer. So would I have made a change because DKD and Humphrys were playing crap? No I would not, because it would have made the team worse, we would have been far less likely to score and a whole lot more likely to concede as the subs would be much more likely to give the ball away in stupid areas.
statistically Humphrys is the worst striker at the club goals per minute, considerably worse than cosgrove too
This is part of the issue…….the third way would be to leave those players on, and add one of Cosgrove or Dyer. But that would require a change of formation, something that seems to be out of the question.
we really needed a win today to keep us in reach I think going one less at the back was the way they were hardly killing us on the break either
nobody has yet, if we had Harry Kane on the field and he was playing crap there's justification for leaving them on but when it's Humphrys who scores every 4/500 minutes hardly taking much away by trying something else
i think Collins was/is a better manager, the players he had at his disposal weren’t that much better than this season, at least he knew what he had and played the way we had to, to get as many points as possible. Problem is - it was pretty boring and some fans decided they didn’t like it, were vocal about it and thought we should have been playing free flow exciting stuff and winning by 3 and 4, so the board sacked him. And we’ve ended up with worse, not much worse probably, there’s not that much in them really - but I think worse.
He had the opportunity to give young Dyer a go so he could take a look at him but he sat on his hands and let the very ineffective Humpries carry on. Dyer could not have been less effective than Humpries so why not give him a chance. The club seems to be prepared to give loaned young players from other clubs game time but not young players from our own academy.
Plymouth won league with cosgrove not long ago by the way and he got around 9 goals. These players are more than capable. They are being badly coached.
