I think it would be harsh to sell him before they have bought him a striker. Like hiring a carpenter but not letting him have a hammer.....
Hourihane has gotten stick left, right and centre this season, despite us actually looking pretty good from attacking set plays, so I'm not sure the heat will be off anyone.
Maybe we think we’re better than we are football wise? We seem to play a certain way and not deviate from it. Probably too late this season to adopt a different style, due to what we’ve got to choose from, but we really have to get out of this league sooner rather than later. If it’s not pretty, I’m sure most don’t care.
Gone are the days when we were renowned for keeping manager's a while Acid lad. I suppose it's the way the game has gone. I reckon DC deserves another season but with two or three experienced signings. We've no stability!
I just asked my wife and daughter if they could tell me where their arses were and where their elbows were. They passed the rest with flying colours. Not sure I'd want them in our dugout on Saturday though.
Connor was signed on a 2 year deal with a view to becoming Head Coach which meant the writing was probably already on the wall for Clarke or he only intended to stay 'til the end of next season anyway. Either way, Hourihane is the "shiny thing" to distract from the lack of quality in the squad.
I remember when we sacked the other Clarke (Alan) in '89, and it was still a shock in those days because we didn't do it regularly. We talk about giving stability a chance, but the owners see it differently, and maybe don't even know or care what it means. And if it will help cover their own backs and if it will also help sell season tickets. Sacking seems to be their only way of dealing with the problem.
I personally don't think sacking Clarke is the answer. He inherited a weak squad and unlike others now at the top of the league we did not sign players of proven quality in the right areas. Furthermore some players eg Cosgrove and Watters have either been injured, not improved or contributed the squad. They being goalscorers who haven't done the job they were expected to do. Others ie Jalo and Benson have spent the season so far on the long term injured list. You cant win a grand prix if you are only driving a tractor.
I think you could come 2nd or 3rd, especially if it was held in Ipswich. But seriously, yeah its that problem of Clarke (or whoever the Coach is) having his hands tied in a way. Because of the constant restraints from the owners.
Nowt to do with the squad he inherited he just ain’t any good as a coach. Look at Everton since moyes took over never looked back. We should get shut now and put hourihane in charge.
Ok, but what then ehh if Connor doesn't want the job, or doesnt even get offered it. And even more so, what if hes also allegedly not good enough, despite not being backed. Yet another sacking which will cost us more, and we have to start from scratch yet again.
