One of the most baffling transfers I can remember. They’re loaning him out to a rival & paying a sizeable chunk of his wages. They’re left with two strikers who haven’t scored in their last 14 & 12 games. They’ve got a manager insistent on playing a system that doesn’t suit his squad. Basically it’s a mess.
The writing was definitely on the cards when Amorim said he'd rather play his 68(or was it 58?) year old goalkeeping coach above him. I think the manager has done great here, it's clear it's not just managers now. Mourinho, Van Gaal, ETH, this guy, they don't just turn ***** over night. Everyone of them have said the exact same thing, Mourinho even said finishing 2nd with that United side was his biggest ever achievement (though I'm sure that was to lessen the pressure on him...) but there's bad apples in that United side. Rashford completely splits the United fanbase and it's evident when watching him he doesn't feel he needs to do the tracking back and closing down, doesn't look like he's training very well either. It does feel like he's "fell out of love" with football though he claims he hasn't, but a move away from Old Trafford is definitely what he needs. I thought getting away from England & the media would have been the best thing, but his wages have been a stumbling block. I bet Villa are paying a lot more than most European clubs could. He's been rubbish for over 2 years now, had that really good season but before that he was relatively poor again. I like him a bloke, does a lot of good, so I hope it works out for him, but he certainly hasn't turned into the player we all thought and hoped he would when he burst onto the scene as a kid
If Villa wanted strikers in pairs, then they'd have played Watkins and Duran together first before getting Rashford.
According to the BBC Villa are paying 75%+ of his £300k+ per week wages. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cjdejvxvk29o
Rashford definitely needs some kind of change of scenery but they can’t loan him to a rival even if they are paying more than any of the foreign clubs are offering. Every time he contributes Amorim’s going to be quizzed on it. They had to loan him abroad for me. I just can’t understand how a manager can take a job in November & decide he’s going to play a system completely unsuited to his players for the next 7 months regardless of results. They get outnumbered in central midfield almost every game. If this carries on there’s going to be no enthusiasm left for Amorim by the summer. There’s rumours Dan Ashworth left because he felt he was the wrong appointment & I’d agree with that. When they played Newcastle & he played Eriksen & Casemiro in a midfield two against Newcastle’s three in Bruno, Tonali & Joelinton I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. That’s one of the worst tactical decisions I’ve ever seen. They could’ve been 5 down by the time he corrected his mistake after half an hour. Everything I’ve seen from him so far suggests he’s way out of his depth & worse than Ten Hag.
Magnus Rashford. Instead of providing a healthy, nutritious hot meal for under-privileged children, this one nicks their dinner money.
I’m actually happy. I don’t particularly like Man Utd. So yes keep Amorim there & let him spend half a billion reshaping the squad.
