Fair enough, this will lead to more fans staying away which leads to less on the day sales etc. but surely the extra cash from Sky balances that out?[/QUOTE] I’ve always felt if you look at how many players join us and go on to have a decent career either as young adults or Academy we are actually decent at identifying players but for some reason they don’t break through that has to be either the coaching/development is not good enough and/or poor strategy by the club to not create a clear pathway. Like you say a player every couple of years who became first team regular would make a huge difference to the finances to this club.
https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...derers-barnsley-transfer-deadline-day-4971610 It's hardly surprising he turned us down, when he can join a club with a far better chance of promotion.
That's how far we have fallen after years of neglect and clueless ownership. When a player has chosen Wycombe over barnsley
Without knowing anything about the player, if he has ties to the Portsmouth area (wife, kids, etc.), then Wycombe could be far more attractive than Barnsley on a personal level. You can commute daily (its 90 minutes each way) rather than have to uproot the family and move north or stay in rented accommodation/hotels during the week.
Maybe not that simple, Maybe we are too far north, young family or wanted a permanent deal? It’s not just as black and white as he rejected us because he didn’t want to play for us.
There is the season distribution, but I believe there's also a payment each time you're shown on sky. It's a relative pittance though, and probably won't cover even a reasonable drop off in ticket sales. Sure I read that said by someone.
Of course the club will tell Doug we weren't after someone that turns us down to go elsewhere. Don't forget that we always get our first choice in every position, including manager
Doesn't mean it isn't true. Given the choice between Doug's word and Alan Nixon's, I think it's clear who's is more reliable.
