The BBS - we should be signing players from non-league like Wycombe did with Kone. Bring Norwood back, he can score in non-league he can still do it hear. the BBS - We’ve signed a striker from the French second tier… it’s practically non-league and we’ve never heard of him. I hope it’s not our only striker in, but none of us know how good he is or isn’t, or what potential he has or hasn’t. Good luck Clément.
I take your point, but Kone was prolific with the Club they signed him from. 90 goals in 100. This lad has scored 8. Got to give him a chance like.
Good luck to him. Surely we all hope he does well. One positive is that as a forward he won't get slated for making defensive cockups like MDG did. All the super strikers had to start somewhere.
If we were signing this lad and another forward (preferably with more experience of English football) then I've no problem with that at all. But if we're just signing this forward... it makes it very difficult to defend the situation. And if I was in charge of media announcements, and we were signing two forwards, and this lad was the (let's say) lesser of the two signings, I wouldn't be announcing him first, because I'd know exactly what reaction that would get. Which makes me believe this really is the only striker signing. Having said that, I have zero faith in the skills of our media department either.
It will probably take him a good few weeks to settle in so it's unfair to be expecting too much from him for the next month or so. Biggest thing in his favour is that the bar for our strikers isn't set very high so who knows? All we can do is get behind him.
I'm working on the very reasonable (in my opinion) premise, that we'd never in a million years have let Cosgrove, Marsh and Dallas (in particular Cosgrove today) leave on loan if Rodrigues was the only one we were bringing in, and he doesn't even have a work permit. That would be insanity and negligence rolled into one, on a stratospheric scale.
I feel a bit sorry for Rodrigues, as its not his fault that he's going to be the focal point of the negativity. He's going to need time to settle and adjust to English football, and I doubt he's going to be given any patience by a fanbase that are going to vent their frustrations (largely directed elsewhere) whenever he makes a mistake. It feels like he's going to be on a hiding to nothing, and that's unfair on someone who none of us know anything about. I hope he can be afforded some patience, and I hope we get to see whatever potential that led to us targeting him as the answer to our striker issues. It's an utterly bizarre move, but that's no fault of the player himself. Good luck Clément.
Personally I never assume anything about players till they've bedded in and played a bit. This guy might turn out to be a brilliant signing. Who knows? If he turns out to be complete and utter Regisesque I'll slag him and the board off then. In the meantime I hope its a great move. Hopefully the recruitment team have done due diligence here and things are starting to look up. If this signing is awful then recruitment will get some pelters.
The club trying again to pull the wool over fans eyes. Saying the French lad is a striker when from his best clips he is a winger at best. Not his fault but I'm not expecting lots of goals from him.
Each League One club is allowed up to two 'Elite Significant Contribution' (ESC) players, provided that in the previous 24 months they have fielded England Qualified players for at least 35% of the time (ie 4 per game on average). An ESC is an overseas player who would not meet the automatic qualifying criteria of the points based system which Rodrigues wouldn't. To be considered as one of these 'Elite Significant Contributors' your 'elite-ness' must extend to having played all of five first team games for the previous club!!! De Giveagoalaway shouldn't count as an ESC any longer as he's met the criteria of playing more than 60% of the minutes in his club's League 1 games in the twelve months since his ESC was granted (now I know why we've been stuck with him each week )
Hopefully he turns out to be good but this smacks of utter desperation and is not gunna be easy because he has to come in and impress the crowd from minute one, because we’re so desperate in the squad he won’t have the time to slowly adjust in and if things start slow he will be the mocking man for yet again such a crap window
