And come up with a striker Wigan no longer wanted signed on the last day of the summer window and spent the whole winter window looking for a striker and come up with somebody from L2 in France whose scored 7 goals in two seasons again signed on the last day of the window. The CEO and DOF are stealing a living inept and incompetent doesn't even start to describe the clowns running the club. Before any body pipes up with DKD he's a midfielder who the head coach plays up top due to the lack of other options.
If I was Clarke I'd play DKD and Phillips up front Saturday with Nwakali, Connell and Russell in central midfield and do things for myself before I receive my P45. This transfer window proves to me. If we aren't being sold, we're sacking Clarke.
Bottom line, we are skint and treading water … barely. If sacking DC will buy the club more time when the fans really start to get in their backs, that’s what they will do, but it doesn’t change the fundamentals.
We keep continuously filling the squad with deadwood then end up finding exit solutions for players that have had very little impact. James Collins signed for Lincoln on a free and has scored 2 in 2. Type of signing we could have offloaded 2/3 players of little impact to make way for.
James Collins is not a data driven signing. Goals per games in L1, ofcourse he is, but if you go for the opta thing, or check his figures off the bras they all wear or search him on your spreadsheet, he'd be way down some analysts list of priorities. He's a gut signing, made by footballing people. We don't have footballing folk at decision making level in our club.
I'm playing devils advocate of course, what's the harm in stepping away from a data driven signin? it's not like they also gaurantee sell on value based on our past record, but a player with over 200 career goals might give you other clues
Just to point out. Wigan only released Humphrys because they were restructuring their wage bill and couldn't agree a new deal with him. So yes, they did want to keep him.
Ots not the lads fault but how do we come across these transfers. Hes 8 career goals at 24 and hes never attracted a transfer fee. Always free transfers. I would genuinely rather have taken Jordan Rhodes. We need instant goals and success. I just cant see Clemente Rodrigues being the saviour. In fact, i will be shocked if he gets past 5 for rest of season. if i was Clarke id walk. Hes getting hammered for results with a squad that is the worst we have had in years. Never known a forward line as poor. You will struggle for a worse one in league. Watters, Humphrys, Rodrigues. WOW
but they do. How many fans speak about not renewing a ST and when the time comes the PR and Anticipation of a new start drives them do renew. Not a criticism, good luck to them. Then the cycle of dissolution starts again. However, I now wonder how many will give it up next time? We need to get back to people renewing without even debating it. I jumped of this hamster wheel and haven’t had the urge to return. I’m an armchair supporter and want nothing more than sustainable success for our club. But it became a chore and a steady decline in enjoyment. I feel sad when I say I, and my family who did the same, haven’t missed it. I think if the owners have no money and no ambition to spend anything then it’s a slow death for the club, fans and the owners themselves. It would therefore be the right thing to find new owners to hand over to. Protect the existing owners bank accounts and give someone else a chance. We had 2 transfer windows with arguably the most obvious shortfalls in the squad, yet we have made no progress in 2 windows and even with a new DOF. We let contracts run down or we weren’t attractive as a club for players to stay or come. I’m not a promoter of aggressively driving owners out but the realistic direction of travel in my mind is that we can only progress with a new start. I hope the owners make the right choice as it’s in their hands not ours. We need to get off life support, and be resuscitated to a healthy state of performance off and on the pitch. Most fans don’t expect miracles, to be prem standard or make the Euros, but we want to be competitive in any league we are in, challenge for promotion and, win or lose have a grand day out that we can enjoy fully.
