Barnsley Football Club can confirm that goalkeeper Ben Killip has joined Portsmouth on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee. The 29-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Reds this season in all competitions after joining the Club in the summer of 2023 from Hartlepool United. Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz said, “Ben leaves Barnsley with nothing but our well wishes for the future. He has been a valuable squad member and has contributed a lot in recent months. We had agreed with Ben that he could leave the Club if he was not guaranteed to be number one, and with Joe arriving last week, we felt it was right to allow him to leave at this stage.” Joe Gauci and Jackson Smith will now compete for first choice in the goalkeeping position. Everyone at Oakwell thanks Ben for his efforts whilst with the Club. Continue reading...
Gauci and Smith to compete for no 1… is that the same Smith that’s deemed not good enough that we’ve tried to send out on loan for two transfer windows and spectacularly failed?
Isn’t this the player who won man of the match quite recently and saved us many times when our defence made mistake after mistake? Bonkers.
Good luck Ben, I think my club has **** on you. You have had a piss poor defence in front of you and saved us so many times. Our last on loan keeper was good wasn’t he,
I don't get the uproar. He's had a run of games and we've struggled to keep clean sheets. We've got some cash for him, brought in a top flight number 2 to the best keeper in the world, and Jackson Smith who we brought in as a future number 1 is now closer to that happening.
Just unbelievable to be honest, and I'm disappointed if this is down to a so called fall out with Clarke.
I think the clean sheets was more to do with the ***** in front of him, he's stopped a few games being hammerings.
Good luck Ben . Excellent stop shotter but scary on crosses and corners. did really well when he came in in terms of stopping shots Seems a bit odd but fair enough if he was never first choice
Anyone thought that Pompey had already approached us a couple of weeks ago, hence why we were looking for another GK and why Killip was dropped as soon as we had one? It's not necessarily the club that has shat on him. He's got a move to a club in a higher division, no doubt on more money. I'm not getting the angst on this one.
