I can’t criticise anybody who puts money into a football club, although the fans will always ask for more. If we are losing four million a season, as reported on this board and players fees and wages being sky high, why would you throw more money at it? At one time the competition took place on the pitch and clubs had to do the best with what they had. Barnsley were never competitive in that arena. Nowadays the competition takes place within the various boardrooms and with the players agents. This is why clubs that have previously not been successful are doing the business now. I’m talking about Wycombe, Wrexham and Leyton Orient, who all seem to be able to outbid us for talent. The question is whether we are making the most of what we have and that is the job of the recruitment team and the coach. Complaining about the board not being rich enough is a waste of time, unless we want the four million deficit to be bigger. Yes of course I’d like them to sell to someone who can invest more, but until that person turns up, we have to make do.
FFP came into being about 15 years ago. But the likes of Birmingham, Wrexham and Wednesday seem to be able to spend whatever they please and call it "ambition", while calling clubs who spend within their means "tinpot"
Problem is that many people are not willing to just ‘make do’. I suspect that many diehards, such as myself, are simply sick of the way the club is currently operating. I have missed more home games than I have attended this season, and I would be pretty strange if I wasn’t questioning the wisdom of continuing to shell out for my season ticket.
I don’t listen to anything that comes out of their mouths personally. They’ve let us down. They want you to understand the financial difficulty they say they are going through. I thought it was madness when Jon Flatman opened up the fans forum with the finance talk. Why? It’s as though they wanted to feed it straight into our brains so they didn’t get asked difficult questions that they probably couldn’t answer. These are my thoughts below: Other clubs don’t bring in the revenue that we do, yet seem to be better run, sign and find better players and have a good connection with their fan base. These clubs are higher up the table or in and around us at the minute. I’d like them to explain why they are having to pump money in whilst seeming to be declining season upon season. Should Phillips and Connell leave, I’m seriously worried as we don’t have any other saleable asset to even the books. Will that mean more money pumped in? Unsustainable and badly run. They won’t admit it. They will just feed you figures that suggest that they are hero’s for ploughing money in. Another thing…..when the fan base do actually realise this and start to turn……they’ll sack Clarke to take the burden off them. We need to realise that the manager isn’t the problem. I’ll point you to a post I did on here back in May after the home playoff game against Bolton. Take a read. It’s happening again.
I used to think the club was in trouble attendance wise. However, youth today go for social status. At the Crawley game. There were young un's showing off and shouting at each other from their possies, "f cuk off back to East stand you..." was one shout.
FFP only applies to The Premier League and Championship. We must adhere to SCMP (Salary Cap Management Protocol) which limits a club's spending on player wages to a percentage of its overall turnover, specifically 60%. Clubs can use equity injections to increase their revenue for this calculation by boosting their overall turnover, which in turn allows them to spend more on player wages while staying within the SCMP limits. Essentially, it allows any level of investment in the team.
I's all just technicalities though, isn't it? The principle of financial fair play surely is to make it fair at all levels, otherwise it was always going to turn into Crawley having a squad valued at £25k being League 1 whipping boys, and Birmingham at £35m running away with the Division.
It’s totally deliberate, it’s to allow someone to pump as much money in as they wish without creating debt on a club.
Not really. Effectively, there aren't any limits in League One / Two, providing they don't create debt for the club. How is that creating a level playing field?
Not having limits is why Birmingham can spend record amounts at the expense of stealing the title from Wycombe and co I'd imagine. In any case weren't Brum in financial trouble not long back?
Reluctantly not. The reluctance is really because it’s the only time I get together with my sons and grandson. But given I am missing so many games then that argument doesn’t really stand up.
I can. Criticise, it was their choice to take the club over, they also knew the situation and looked at figures, I presume, if they didn't want to throw their money in they shouldn't have bought into the club
