So much going on behind the scenes

Let's start with Collins. We were looking like we could pip autos until the last few months. The fact is the players fell out with Collins because he wouldn't let them have time off with family in the national break. That's the truth.

The board. Other smaller clubs manage better than us. Wy are we struggling? That's on the board.

The manager. Likewise to the board. Playing with wing backs at this level or any level you never really succeed. Using wing backs builds a slow turgid game.

There's so much mess and after all this theirs an awful lot more...

 

Never succeed with wing backs apart from wilder who took Sheffield.united from league one to the Premier League using wing backs. You don't if you use them like us today in there own half passing sideways backwards.

They shouldn't have taken up the profession if that's the attitude.

 

Ill not mention a name but someone told me. Someone who is well in the club. I don't ask him anything anymore to avoid any disappointment

 

When you are only allowed to play one system and you only sign players to play in that system you're hamstrung from the start.

 

I was told recently that Clarke was asking round people he knew in football about recruiting a new first team member of staff & then one turned up for work that he hadn’t been told about.

 

Pretty sure we got promoted to the Premier League playing with wing backs and it was just like watching Brazil…

Wing backs got us to the Premiership. Either way it's not really systems it's players and if we're conceding goals with 3 at the back, I don't think we'll be better with 2.

 

Two wing backs not blessed with much pace either! But both could cross a ball. Thing that strikes you most about that team was how well balanced it was and how it was a team with a natural leaders and a will to win, which unfortunately you can't say about this squad.

 

That’s what I mean though. People slagging off 3-5-2 of 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2. Plenty of teams play it at all levels. It saw us get to the Premier League. The issue is the quality of players we have or the attitude of the players we have.
You can blame the board for that, the recruitment team and the manager, but not the formation.

 

It seemed clear to me that Cole stopped trying and no one can convince me otherwise - whether it was because he was running down his contract or something else. Same goes for Kane.

 

Yeah but apparently he's still a clown etc!.
This for me is why they don't hire Managers anymore. Because hiring a Coach instead, allows them to pull far too many strings from the board room.
Clarke's hands are somewhat tied, and ok yeah he must have known this when he took the job.
How much longer has he got left I wonder.

 

Back in 1996, teams played with pace. Players passed then moved into space. Players made runs off the ball and their teammates passed to them. These days it's all static, short passes. The formation may be the same, but the game certainly ain't!

 

Agreed, but the formation isn’t the problem.

 

Players are the problem also

We have lack of balance. If we are compacting the midfield we need a strong hold midfielder. We have really got one. We have connell who is lightweight. Phillips who is kind of box to box. Nwakali. Similar to connell but a better footballer.

Then we have 3 or 4 defenders that can't defend lol

 

It shouldn't have been enough of a reason on either side to let all the good work slide.

 

If you’re playing wingbacks the lads that play there firstly need to be very fit be able to attack one minute and defend the next have half a brain to anticipate when to do this and hearts as big as lions, score goals and make goal line clearances all part of being the fittest players on the pitch,wingbacks …….
