Been for the first time today to see us beat the French. What a fantastic set up they have down there, would highly recommend if you’ve never experienced it.
The old Twickenham they knocked down was just incredible....it was like a huge green painted version of the Wimbledon Centre Court...without the corporate boll**ks we see today..but with the loudest noise generating stands I've ever been in...far better than Wembley old or new. Interesting fact...it's the only Rugby Stadium in the world to have been hit by a V2 missile.
It's a while since I've been, 2015 RWC I believe, but I remember how small the seats were. I was crushed by the people either side of me, and my knees were in the back of the seat in front. Not comfortable.
It's not the size of the seats that's the problem it's the size of the rugby fans at either side of you.
Claim to fame…. My one and only trip to Twickenham was for England V Scotland. Prior to kick off I refereed a 7v7 Disability Touch Rugby game on the pitch. Afterwards Bill Beaumont came in and spoke to all the players. Brilliant experience.
We went for the Aussie friendly at the start of November. Best ground I’ve been to. The atmosphere in and outside the ground is phenomenal. Made the mistake of not staying the night of the game as it took forever to get away and nearly missed the train home but still, awesome. The pubs pre match in Twickenham as well was ace.
"We went for the Aussie friendly at the start of November" Not a criticism...just a nuance...although it's not written down anywhere, there's no such thing as an international ' friendly' in Rugby Union. Friendly in football terms suggests relatively worthless...that the result doesn't really matter too much. In Union, although there is no competition at stake they're regarded as Test matches.
I worked there setting up the IT for RWC 2015. Best work environment I've ever had the pleasure of working at. Amazing stadium. Fun question. Which annual game in the Twickenham calendar generates the most booze income?
