Went to the game as a visitor, in the home end as I didn’t qualify for tickets. Result aside, what a great club. Love to see local fans supporting their team. They have got so many things right. Family atmosphere, fan zone, singing. Fair play to them. Fantastic family club.
Agree, felt no animosity to them or from them; they deserved the win and seemed to be grounded and normal. I envied them actually.
Ive had a laugh here at work with some of the Manc drivers this week, when talking about this game. One of them especially, who is a Stocky fan, and he was swearing the other night about us sending Sam Cosgrove to them!. Its good when you get down to earth clubs and fans, who have a laugh and are more realistic about their team. Compared to certain other 'bigger' clubs and fans ehh!. And I like that they've grown a real dislike for Wrexham, in recent seasons lol.
I concur. I was in the away seats also and there was none of the negativity and cynicism that’s part of the Oakwell experience
You have to respect fans of clubs like Stockport, who choose to support their local "smaller" club, rather than copying so many of their schoolmates or workmates who flock to the bigger clubs in the hunt for "glory". It's a similar situation with the less fashionable London clubs, who choose not to follow Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs.
I also went in the home end with my son. Atmosphere was great, everyone behind their team. Decent little fan zone with nice food and a few good beers (Neck Oil by Beavertown). But, they had pretty much run out of food before half time and the food available wasn’t as good as at BFC. So there is that. Managed to miss all three goals somehow.
I'm impressed that you and @fired managed to make it into the fanzone. We were denied entry due to my 12 year old having away colours on and consequently had to speak to all our Stockport mates across the barrier.
Last time I went to Stockport was Boxing Day 1998. Won 1-0 De Zeeuw goal. Missed start of game. Took ages to get past Trafford centre then parked in a housing estate surrounded by a big Fence. Took about 10 mins to find our way out with lots of other Barnsley fans . Could see ground but couldn't get to it
Sadly can’t say same for the away end. The experience was worse than last few times we played there, when we were at least under cover on occasion.
Is it still the Edgeley park ground, or whatever its now called, and is it all seated now. Despite all what's been said about the awful sounding first half. Can we feel just a bit disappointed (yet again) at not taking a few chances, and maybe snatching a point in the end.
Yes, still same ground. As OP says, second half was better than first, but was that us improving or them taking their foot off the gas a bit? Whatever the reason, we definitely had a bit of a go at it. DKD started having a bit of the ball. Farrugia didn’t disgrace himself as a makeshift striker and we had a few shots that sadly were straight at the keeper. Damage was done in the first half and we probably set up wrong.
We got there early and had a good day out of it. Coldest I've ever been at a football match. Scored with our one and only shot on target of the whole match. Apart from winning it was a lot like yesterday sounded!
