For me it’s a lack of desire I’ve seen far too many games this season where we just look 2nd best in terms of trying to win a ball or beaten to loose ball or players shying out of 50/50 that they could win it was pretty evident that first halve yesterday that they had more fight than us. although looking at this upcoming rule change I perhaps see why so little being spent on the team now. “From next season, clubs will be able to spend only up to 60 per cent of turnover on players, including wages, while using equity injections from owners to fund transfers will also be subject to new restrictions“ It’s fairly clear we are skint and running at a deficit of 8m is only going to make this worse.
Some of our most successful seasons were with wing backs - obviously the one already mentioned, but with Val too. Styles and Brittain. The difference there is obviously the quality of player. Styles and Brittain or Gent/Earl and O'Keefe? No contest is there.
I agree with this in spades. It takes absolutely no skill at all to show heart and desire. Our players could be as bad as they are now but would be slightly more forgiven if they, you know, got stuck in and showed some passion.
O'Keefe isn't a patch on some of the great wingbacks we've had in the past. To be honest, sometimes he looks like he hasn't played the sport before. But he's fit, he works hard, he's very brave and committed, and he creates goals for us. He make mistakes too, but he's the least of our problems. We've got nothing on the left at all (maybe Farrugia will fill that gap), at least one of our centre halves gives a goal away almost every week (it was Pines and Earl this week) and we have just one striker at the club in Watters who most people don't like (I do, but he's injured more than not). Maybe we have two with the signing of the sub from the French second division outfit, but I highly doubt it.
