Once strong defence now feeble why?

I'll tell you why because we sold Anderson, Kitchin for big bucks and let Bobby Thomas return to his parent club whilst getting Earl,
Pines, Shepherd, Mccarthy, Kapata, Giverney and a 33 year old Marc Roberts to replace them. Our defence is leaky-you bet it is because our defenders lack championship quality(sadly Roberts is now past his prime and Maël has the possible makings of a decent defender). All successful teams are built on a strong defence first and foremost and we have been leaking goals for a couple of seasons. Our board will not invest in the team and the director of football and CEO are just papering over the cracks. If the board don't get their fingers out (like they haven't done as recently as this last transfer window) then the club is spiralling downwards. We might have spent more time in the second tier of English football but I fear we will never return there.

 

Cos the recruitment team is crap, this identifying crap players, particularly defenders. It’s as simple as that really.

We have continued to sign inferior players on the cheap both in defence and attack and are now paying the price for it. DKD was our most expensive player in the current squad, the rest were signed on frees or for peanuts and it shows. Look at our home form over the last couple of seasons, it's been pathetic.

 

Yeah and it shows the ignorance of the people who run the club, do they really think that its going to work every time ?.
Where they sell off all the quality, and hope they might find a golden nugget of a replacement player, in the lower leagues or even the non league.

 

We've been in league one for 3 seasons, which is increasingly looking like it will be 4 and you expect us to have a team full of defenders of "championship quality"? Notwithstanding the cost of said players, why would they be willing to play in the third tier if they were obviously so much better?

 

I'd be happy with defenders of league 1 quality. That would be a huge improvement for us

 

This forum is so depressing

 

We win 5 out of 6 with Mccarthy in, then lose the next 4 out of 5 with him not. I'm perplexed why he was dropped from an in form team. I know he's not the answer to all our problems but at least stick with a winning team ffs

The recruitment team are really good, identify some decent players, only to be met by:
'Nice. But can you find something similar but much cheaper?' from Mladen, Flatman et al.

 

Or what we are willing to pay probably discounts the top 3 pages of a 4 page search.
