The Reds' latest signing, Jonathan Lewis, has arrived at Oakwell eager to make an impact. The dynamic forward sat down with us to discuss his move, ambitions, and what the fans can expect from him.

Welcome to Barnsley, Jonathan, how does it feel to be here?

Yeah, I’m excited to be here. I’m already ready for the matches to come up and to help the team get into the playoffs. I’m excited for it all.

Talk us through how the move came about.

It took about a week. We got the paperwork sorted and sent over. I liked the project that was proposed to me, and I was ready to go. It was a quick turnaround, and then I got on a flight, and here I am.

What attracted you to joining Barnsley?

Honestly, just being able to be in a top club in League One, compete for the playoff spots, and compete with big clubs in this league. It’s a club with ambition to get back into the Championship, and for me to be part of a project like that is unique and attracted me. I’m excited about that.

Did you speak to anyone before joining the Club?

They said the fan base is great and the pitch is good [Daryl Dike and Donovan Pines]. They had a lot of good things to say. Obviously, Daryl came over here and made a name for himself, so hopefully, I can emulate that, give the fans some goals, and something to be excited about. They had great things to say, and it makes me very excited to be here.

What kind of player are you? How would you describe your style?

I’m a one-v-one guy. I like to dribble and try to score goals. I see myself as a creative player, but I can definitely run in behind. I’m a pretty quick player, so hopefully, I can be exciting for the fans.

You have some English connections, don't you?

I came over here when I was about 17 or 18, playing in Bradford’s Youth Academy, and ultimately, I went back to America. But my mum is English—she’s half English—so some of my family still live in England. My uncle lives in Scotland, so I have a lot of English connections in my family.

You've played in the MLS against some great opponents. How has that shaped you?

Playing in the MLS, being part of a league that’s grown—some elite players and big coaches have come over. My first coach was Patrick Vieira, so I got to play under him. I played with players who have played at the highest level, like David Villa. I played with Jack Harrison, who currently plays for Everton. I’ve had the experience of playing with and against big players. I got to play against Messi, which was a unique experience. Seeing how the MLS has grown is what drew me to Barnsley—seeing what this club can become, especially if we can get promoted to the Championship.

What can Barnsley fans expect from you out on the pitch?

I’m here to help win games. At the end of the day, it’s not about what I can do on the pitch—it’s about what the team can do. Hopefully, I can instil some more confidence in the lads, get back on a winning streak, and get results. We have some big games coming up and want to put ourselves in a playoff position.

Business speak that irritates so much. Thought exactly the same. In fact I couldn’t listen to the full interview it was that banal.

    Top dollar.
Prove his worth to a club who want him on a longer deal.

    My kind of 'project'.

I want to not only see his first game, I want him to smash it. More than that, I want him to score for fun, and become an instant legend.

Still an irritating interview. But aye, we're far from the only club who does them.

You've not seen the lad play and you make such a crass comment and you probably call yourself a Barnsley supporter.

Anyone using the word ‘project’ should have their contracts immediately terminated.

Maybe they might want to enlighten us just exactly what this project is supposed to be?

I was drawn more to this quote: "I’m a one-v-one guy. I like to dribble and try to score goals." I could stand to watch a bit of that.

You misunderstood, in the article he says it's a unique opportunity. I was alluding to it being a uniquely crap opportunity...
