I don't think it was announced, why would you appoint a manager and then say "oh by the way, we've just signed somebody ready to take over when we sack you"....

But I'm pretty sure that's what will happen when they sack Clarke.

I don't think Devaney has the courage to make the necessary changes. Whenever he was given the caretaker role, usually with nothing to lose, he stuck with the same players and formations which the departing manager had lost his position for using.

I do not believe the board have the level of influence on the match day squad and formations, as many seem to believe. It has also been proven that the manager is involved in recruitment, not just higher ups.

Jon Russell is arguably better than Herbie Kane? Stop the bus. I want to get off. Seriously? At what?

At this point last season the form of Roberts in goal and Cole up top faded, in Cole’s case drastically.

But up to Christmas and slightly beyond, the performance of those two in particular had papered over the cracks and won games for us.

DKD is a decent like for like comparison for McAtee. And is doing a good job.

But in many other areas the squad is weaker this season.

This isn’t an excuse post for Clarke, nor an attack on Collins. But it isn’t true to say the squads are particularly comparable - in either quality or in balance.

All fair points in my opinion, apart from the first one. As Andy pointed out in a previous post, Russell is ahead of Kane on all the metrics that matter. That's not just opinion, it's objective fact.

Statistics mean sod all though which is why we are in the mess we're in in the first place.

A player with more assists isn't necessarily better than one with less. I would guarantee that Mo Salah would get less assists with Cosgrove and Humphreys up front than Barry Cotter would get with Haaland and Chris Wood up front.

Would that make Barry Cotter better than Mo Salah? The metrics would say yes but my eyes would say no.

Russell's stats are better than Kane's in the same league. I'd say they're a fair comparison and indicator of effectiveness, if not raw footballing ability. I personally think Russell is a much better player than Kane. If you don't, that's completely up to you.

The only thing in his defence is that he didn't choose his "mates" they were imposed by the club. Devaney needs to go, sorry Martin but you do.

He was being respectful to his previous team like when not celebrating his goal. WTF? Who's paying your wages lad?

Collins was hounded out by the boo boys who had just started to turn on the board, didn't want any criticism coming their way did they and unfortunately he paid the price for that. NC's sacking still really annoys me.

I find it piss funny when those wanting Clarke out suggest Hourihane as his replacement.

"The only thing that will ever bring money into this club is the standard of our first team signings"

    Absolutely spot on.

Didn't Sormaz give an explanation about how his style of football wouldn't work in the playoffs or something to that effect.

“Statistics mean sod all”, you’d better inform all the elite clubs of Europe that absolutely pour over statistics for opponents, signings, diets, fitness, hell probably even which hotel to stay in.

I don't know if he said it, but if he did it needs to be borne in mind he's never kicked a football in his life ( as far as I know)

Jon Russell's only 24 years old he's got 6 goals from midfield this season in 24 games. i like him hes abit unorthodox at times but i think hes been very good for us this season probably only Phillips more productive but he has faded since Xmas.

The problem on here with Russell is he wasn't as good last season and some posters saw him as sort of a scapegoat. Same posters have done it this season. Take stockports 1st goal, he challenged for a header the ball breaks in midfield the stockport player picks up the 2nd ball unchallenged, has time to look up and play a long ball (still more or less unchallenged by our defensive midfielder) and put there man one on one with pines he then scores. Some on here saw that as Russell's fault we conceded unbelievable.
