Never really had a problem with it - I was told I would have to adapt my accent when I first started teaching in Liverpool
Have to admit, I think the Scouse accent is ace. As are the locals. Glaswegian accent i struggle with, especially if they've had a few... got a few mates from there and they're all the same.
Once in New York in a bar and after a few trips to bar a local said , boy you’re putting it away tonight, I replied not really just steady away , she pointed and said Dutch , I said no , Denmark ,,, no ,,,a circular tour of Europe’s country s I eventually informed her I was English and said to her ,not everyone in England talks like the queen.bloke with her was passed out nearly after shareing two pitches of beer between 4 of them, which I told her tek him home he’s pissed art ov his eead, she just looked blank and I casually walked back to mi seat ,
I think its a toss up lol, between scouse and brummie for me. As to which is the worst and most annoying one.
Used to have a drink in my local with Eddie, a Scottish bloke, quietly spoken. I once asked him about accents from different Scottish towns so he went through them all. I asked him where Jock (another Scottish bloke who drank there) came from because I couldn’t understand a single word he said. “Glasgow” replied Eddie. “Is that why I can’t understand him” I asked “Nah” said Eddie. “Ya canna understand him because he’s a c * n t.”
Aww no kid lol, how can you not like 'Ull. Its all about what we like and dislike though isn't it, which is the good thing about 'opinions'. To be honest though, Hull/East Yorkshire is my favourite part of the country, for various reasons, and that then also includes the accent.
This lass is good at them, although maybe not quite as good as she thinks she is, lol. Not surprisingly, Sean Bean gets the obvious mention when it comes to our very own Yorkie accent.
I had the same issue when I moved to London. One bloke, who i teamed up with on the building sites, ended up being a kind of interpreter.
Hey when it's a female voice speaking... then I like certain accents a little bit more lol. But one of my favourites is the really coarse harsh Norn Iron (Belfast) type accent. But don't ask me why though, I just do!!.
I really like all the accents. They tell tale of where you’re from. I’m proud and happy about my Barnsley accent. I’ve used it to my advantage many times, when people have had a prejudicial view of me because of it. There aren’t worst ones, but I do think some are more easy to understand than others. Scouse and Glaswegian are particularly difficult if they are heavy accents. Some accents are stranger than others, Brummie, West Country, Bolton are great accents for comedy imo.
Mi son moved to Brum in his uni days. And came back with a bit of a brummie twang. I gave him a bollocking. Lol. Then he's lived in that there london for around 15yrs. He's got his barnsley accent back but it's toned down for his job. Mate went to be a trainee chef at the Dorchester in London after leaving school, and stayed there many yrs. Became Sous Chef there. He came back with a Cockernee accent. We were unmerciful with him. Uncle moved up from Brentford. Married mi Aunty from tarn int 50's Never lost his london accent one iota. Living up here 60 yrs. Using some Barnsley terms. Quite funny really.
