In the past few weeks some not all have been asking why we haven't signed "a proper"centre forward. If you look at Sam he fits the description of what most fans wanted. 6 " 4 inches of strong build has played 300 games is a good age at 28 and has scored goals at Championship,Scottish Premiership and plenty in league one. My question is why haven't we got a tune out of him and played him more.?
Because we don't play to his strengths, apart from the 2 play off games against Bolton where he looked a world beater
The match at Bolton is amongst the top 10 centre forward displays I've seen watching the reds. He was unplayable. Which is what makes the rest of his games so so frustrating. Thought he would kick on, esp after the lovely goal at Lincoln in August. God knows what happened.
I refuse to believe that he’s no good. His record proves that he has done well everywhere, except with us. He could be a Shipperley/Aylott type of player. If only……
We play too narrow... He's 6ft 4 needs to have something to get on the end of coming in from out wide.
We dont play to the strengths of an out and out striker. They have to score worldies or run the flanks, hold the ball up and pass to themselves. Our attacking play is pedestrian and telegraphed. We have too many intelligent midfielders that can't do Donkey work. Too narrow...I could go on.
I'd say it's partly tactical, partly the inability of our coaching setup to get the most out of him, but mostly an attitude issue with the player himself. He'd reached the point where a move away was the best option for things to change, and it wouldn't surprise me if he finds somewhere where he can thrive. Whether or not that's Stockport remains to be seen.
Come on guys, even when we went long and he was backing up defenders he jumped and the 6'4 became 5'9.I'm afraid working on percentages your going to score a few if you've got 300 games under your belt. The simple truth is he just isn't good enough. You can bookmark me,he won't score more than one goal for the remainder of the season.
It's probably a 2 way thing, of how we play as mentioned and Sam Cosgrove's application, 3 goals and an assist over the 2 playoff games is a good return. I think he has his limitations at a higher level than this. Just one of those transfers that hasn't come off here, been plenty over the years so he's in good company.
Cadden and Williams were decent but he was down the pecking order behind Cole and McCatee, but this seasons wingbacks are very poor, Farrugia may come good but too little too late as far as Cosgrove
We signed him at a good age he'd had a decent career up to joining us surely the coaching staff should have got him up to playing the level he achieved at the back end of last season. I think throughout his career if he wasn't good enough he wouldn't have played 300 games.
I don't think o keffe is poor he's got plenty of assists. Cosgroves problem isn't that we didn't play to his strengths or we should have built a team around him. He only ever been prolific for one season in the spl. Just not very good.
Did he he not state he was studying to be an accountant? Personally, I think that is where is heart is currently.
