Went to Liverpool XmasEve, went to have alook, saw it this morning on the tv, it was more impressive stood by it, reminded me of a spaceship, looky loooky Evertonians.
I’ve said exactly that on here before and obviously got criticism - think small, no ambition etc. But it’s a fact that we cannot fill the seats available and a great chunk of it is unusable anyway. I don’t see that changing any time soon. I don’t like how Bournemouth have got there but they seem to have established themselves with a small but FULL ground and the atmosphere generated by those 11,000 is pretty good. Maybe they’re thinking of moving to something bigger but I think they’re ok where they are. The barren, empty wastelands at most grounds these days look awful and I don’t see the point in small clubs (like ours) having over 20,000 seats.
Personally it wouldn’t bother me one bit if Barnsley fc moved to a new purpose built stadium and anyone know what’s happening to Goodison I’m presuming a new housing development ?
I think Oakwell can be easily brought up to standard with the right people in charge. I get the argument for down sizing but doing that you could end up like Scunthorpe or Northampton. Fact is if the team was in the Championship with better facilities the ground would be ample.
Not saying it will happen but if we did get the opportunity to move to something more modern and comfortable for our fans we’d be mad to turn it down .
I hate the notion of downsizing. If we did it should be done with segregation in mind so the maximum gate was always 20,000. So for example a new Stadium being built with an away end smaller than the rest of the Stadium. So 21,000 with 1000 lost to segregation. For size of our club. I'd say no smaller than 21,000.
I'd support that course of action at the moment. It would finally give me the excuse after 50 years support to say **** it - and go and do something else more pleasurable instead.
Don’t know why but i really hate it that the ponty is smaller than the away end and while we’re at it would love to have the player tunnel back on the half way line , then watch us fly up the league Lol
Personally think it's an absurd thought about a new ground Who the hell is going to fund it first and foremost? Anyone wanting a capacity of 10/11k just to make it look full, will also complain when we draw a man city in the cup and we lose the ability to sell out a larger stadium. Oakwell isn't great I agree, a few things need doing. But anything other than correcting what's needed in our current ground shouldn't even be entertained...
The few things that need doing never get done that’s the problem we’re going backwards on and off the pitch.
The thing is we don’t need a new ground. There’s plenty of room for improvements to the existing one on the current footprint. Those who have moved to new stadia did so as it wasn’t possible or viable to improve the existing grounds. It isn’t cheaper to relocate. Oakwell should stay our home on those grounds - but we need to sort it out. It’s getting unfit for purpose at the moment.
I think their new ground looks good and doesn’t seem like the standard Lego fishbowl stadium that teams move to these days. For us, I can’t see us moving to a new ground in the near future. Or the far distant future either for that matter.
Knock it down and let's ground share with Frickley. Oakwell too big, get the bulldozers in and build a new stadium that holds 7500 wet through. Rah, rah, rah.
