There'll be even more soon if we can't sort ourselves out. Plus Leeds & Sheff U will be PL next season
I'm more concerned that they're supporting Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs etc - those 'elite' clubs are the issue going forward for a club like ours.
Cause they want be winners and think there are better than us tarns lads .Not willing to put the hard yards in supporting the reds.
There’s a simple solution to it. We need to get into Championship and then start pushing for promotion to Premier League us selves. Obviously really. Can’t believe nobody thought about it before now.
People like to be associated with success dont they? Very shallow some folks. Many aren't real fans imo. As fickle as the wind.
im not sure. I was brought up as a Man Utd fan. Used to go watch em, but Barnsley was always my second team and I started watching them when I was old enough to go myself as it was easier and cheaper. I went once to watch Barnsley and was hooked. Even though united were the best team at the time after years of being **** Problem is now with crap we're putting out is if we get em in the ground once it's most likely gonna be the one and only time
This isn't a problem only relating to our club. Other clubs close to major conurbations have the same problem. We are located between two large cities with teams, historically, more successful than ours so there will always those drawn to an easier life. Having said that, we have out performed all these clubs at various times over the last 20 years so we're a pretty good draw. You also have to remember that one of the town's greatest assets is it people and they migrate away from Barnsley for various reasons but still hold a bond with the town through the football team. I suspect a good number of our fanbase aren't based in Barnsley and this will balance against those tempted with the bright lights of a metropolitan club. Also, I haven't looked at the averages but I suspect we're still averaging over 10K which for a town of our size isn't too bad in League One. I can't think of teams of a similar history and status that are in a much better situation though I'm sure one of you will point out exceptions
Nowt new; in Bolton on Dearne British Legion club the night we got promoted to the Prem, a bloke in a Man U shirt told me "You'll be straight back down next year", as if I didn't think that was highly likely anyway. Git.
Don't think any of em have won a thing in the last 30 years apart from the odd promotion. South Barnsley is less than 10 miles from Sheffield so there'll always be families brought up to support the dee dars. Leeds are the biggest club in Yorkshire so will attract fans from a larger radius.
