Some tricky games Lincoln H Charlton A Blackpool H Mansfield A Cambridge H Wigan A Need a couple of wins to be absolutely certain we're not talked about as being sucked into the relegation equation, April has games against Birmingham A, Bolton H and Leyton Orient A, I'm sure we'll be fine bottom 4 are poor
We only need a couple of points to all but confirm safety, these are the highest points teams were relegated with in the previous 3 seasons: 23/24 - 44pts 22/23 - 45pts 21/22 - 40pts
Yep, wish people would stop suggesting we could be in a relegation scrap, it’s nigh on impossible as we would have to lose every game and every team would have to go on a winning spree below us, which of course is impossible as they have to play each other.
With respect that's games against teams currently in 7th, 10th, 12th, 15th, 16th and 24th. And after next two v 14th and 19th to end Feb It's a decent run of games - I'd be very disappointed if we don't hit the magic 50 point mark after that. Mansfield are on a worse run than us and no others bar Charlton are on a good run. I'm glad March and April fixtures aren't the other way round.....
Every game seems tricky for us at the moment. I'm expecting us to win a few games soon, but which they might be is hard to predict.
Its very sad to read more comments about relegation. Unlikely though it is. Very depressing times at the moment.
Quite hard to predict us at the minute but I reckon both the 3 home games and 3 away games will result in 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat. 8 points I guess.
It’s a strange experience having a season just fizzle out. We’re usually active at one end of the table. It’s like the mid-Eighties all over again.
Go back a few seasons further and I seem to remember 47 and 50 weren't enough. I think it'll take something pretty outlandish for us to end up in the drop zone but I'm still going that we get our act together and make a fight off things further up. The evidence is making it harder to believe that though.
Here’s a larger sample 10 year sample for you then: 23/24 - 44pts 22/23 - 45pts 21/22 - 40pts 20/21 - 47pts 19/20 - 35pts (cut short due to covid) 18/19 - 50pts 17/18 - 50pts 16/17 - 49pts 15/16 - 46pts 14/15 - 50pts Average points required is 45.6 Even if 50 is the bench mark you’d still like to think we could pick up 7pts from the remaining 15 games. Also as another poster pointed out. Burton, Crawley, Shrewsbury and Cambridge would all have to go on a decent run and we’d have to do significantly worse than the 13 teams below us. Relegation is possible but Incredibly unlikely. That still doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a disappointing season though.
