Prior to Allan Clarkes arrival. Then Norman Hunters push to the championship. It was far worse. Most following wendy and weeds. The generations that started to watch Barnsley passed that on to the next generation. Crowds booming. People follow success in the main. The biggest problem now for such as us, is not only failure on the pitch but the TV saturation. It's mainly why I'm only interested in watching tarn. Love Barnsley hate football.
Alot of the plastic leeds fans from other towns are more followers than supporters, they'll watch there games on sky, share there stuff on social media, buy a shirt and a car badge but I've probably been Elland road more times watching barnsley than 90% of them. It's not just our town a few years ago I was on holiday and got speaking to a bloke from Huddersfield I said you a town fan? "No leeds" ah ok
Throughout the seventies there was a regular double decker bus to Leeds home games from the bus station plus some went on the train. I think it should be pointed out though that fans from other teams do move to other locations, there’s a surprising number of our fans in Harrogate for instance.
Hey I'm not from Burnsley taarn lol, I'm from 'near Wakey' in West Yorkshire. So for obvious reasons I could (and maybe should) have become a Leeds fan when I was a kid. But I actually chose not to, and eventually the Tykes Fc became an option for me, in season '80.
