Agree poor man management from him in saying this but the issue with Dyer not being ready is not DC fault it lies with the people here long before him.
If he was good enough Clarke would play him. Dyer is on the bench because Watters is injured, Jalo is injured, Dallas has been loaned out, Cosgrove has been loaned out, Marsh has been loaned out, and we didn't sign a centre forward. He's on the bench because he's the only centre forward we've got. Clarke said 'raw' because he's not going to call him out as not being good enough in the press. Because that would be appalling. Just cos some other kid is good enough at 17 doesn't mean Dyer is good enough. There are so few players that progress from a youth set up to a professional footballer. And the one's that don't make it, the vast majority of all those who go through a junior football, don't fail to make it because they weren't given game time, it's because they weren't good enough. Dyer was not part of Clarke's plans but he's been brought in because recruitment and handling loans has been so bad Clarke has no other choice.
It isn't as simple as that though is it? When we refer to the academy costing money are we talking about the coaching for kids? Are we talking about coaching for young adults before they come through to the first team? Or are we talking about the cost of the facilities? If it's kids coaching then fair enough but really how much does it cost? If it's the facilities then what is the proposal? Knock the clubs training facilities down and train in a park somewhere? If it's the cost of coaching the young adults then what do we suggest? Get rid of everything below the first 11? No under 21s or 23s or whatever it is anymre? How do we have a reserve team? I think that the costs of "the academy" are massively exaggerated because people lump in all of our clubs training costs and blame it on the academy when in reality the first team squad and fringe players are using those same facilities and are probably a large proportion of the costs. Then there is the whole debate of "when did we last produce anything"? Well that depends. Do we only count players we sold for a big profit or do we include those who have played for us and therefore saved us money on bringing I'm players or in playing more expensive players. With contracts being how they are with appearance fees etc is it not likely to be significantly cheaper to bring dyer on for 5 minutes in a lost cause game than it is to bring Cosgrove on? Over the years how much money have we saved there? I bet nobody takes that into account when factoring the academy cost. Going ome step further with that. While we may not have brought through any England internationals we have brought through some average league one players. Or at least we could have if we gave them the same opportunity we give to the more expensive players we bring to the club. Marsh has done absolutely nothing wrong compared to Cosgrove yet he has been written off and shipped out while Cosgrove is still here stealing a wage. Yoganathan shipped out but Benson is still strolling around the club Shepherd did very little wrong in the few appearances he was allowed to make for us but had a bad game so he's been banished to make way for josh ******* earl. Interesting that he wasn't ****** off after making mistake after mistake after mistake. At Barnsley you aren't judged objectively on performance, you are afforded opportunity based on where you came from and it's wrong. THAT is what is costing us a fortune and crippling our club. Not the cost of the academy which is producing players that our bonkers policy says we don't play. **** the policy and attitude of bringing in loads of **** adults who aren't ready and instead let's use our academy even if they too aren't ready
I get that but why aren't watters, Cosgrove, Humphreys described as raw and left to rot on the bench when they have been equally as bad? It seems that if they are brought in through our adults recruitment team then they are given chance after chance, if they are brought in through the academy they are given none
Totally agree with this. Whilst Clarke has his faults, the lack of support is criminal to the extent that if he resigned citing said lack of support, he’d be fully justified in doing so. I can’t begin to describe how shockingly bad our recruitment has been in the last 12 to 24 months . It’s embarrassing and not befitting of a club of our stature.
Though if the Crynes are paying for it, they may not wish to put their money into player purchases instead if it were to be shut down.
There is no separation between the academy and the football club. The Cryne’s are paying their % in line with their support for the totality of the football club, just like Neerav and the other owners of the club.
It was rumoured to cost us £1m a season a few years back so I would imagine that’s increased now. So I even if it shaved £800k off our operating costs that’s still a significant amount for something that doesn’t and hasn’t given us any tangible benefits. With the EEP (or whatever it’s called nowadays your players can be poached for next to nothing anyway so I doubt we will never see another John Stones type player ever come through the ranks again now anyway) The new rules mean that a Category 1 academy can go to any other training ground to watch a player (giving 48 hours' notice) and effectively buy the player for a fixed fee starting from £3,000.[16]
Correct. And I’ve explained three times the cost of the academy on here this season, can’t be a***d again. But in basic terms, the Premier League funds most of it, as part of the EPPP agreement some years ago. I’m not suggesting our academy is a roaring success, but it’s well down the list of glaring BFC issues for me.
I can't comment much on the first part, as I just don't know, but you make some good points about the difference in the treatment of our academy players compared to ones we bring in.
It’s because of the EPPP that it doesn’t cost that much. Premier League funding covers a large portion of the costs. And we will always lose superb youngsters, EPPP or not. We are a middle of the road nothing club. Sad as it is to say.
Not necessarily. Some players still look raw at 30 if they aren’t good enough. Given who Dyer is behind in the pecking order & how he hasn’t set the world alight in the under 21’s or on loan would suggest that he’s never likely to make it at this level. I know you can get late developers but I think a lad who’s lived, breathed & football since been a young kid through his dad is pretty unlikely to be one of them.
There’s no doubt it’s been poor in recent years but Clark came through at the same time as Stones & Bree & Holgate came through afterwards so there have been notable players that have come through.
I ant heard wat he's said about dyer mate, but let's BT weight we've proved in games with alot more class then other teams,I think he's lost changing room because I don't think there doing as there told, with still got 5 subs but wats happened to all pressing av seen Rodger Wylde put more effort in than most of our team and he did no closing down at all,but ad still av him in side na,he wa past his best but I still liked him.alot of teams get a new manager in and get good results straight away and I think that's because there fighting for there place,I do think we lack ambition that doesn't help, telling players do well for bfc and you'll get your big move is s..t aswell, your playing for bfc we expect 110%and let's build a team than can get us promoted then you'll be playing championship football for us unless we're willing to sell you at the right price and you want to go there.id prefer to see some young guns come in,yeh they'll make mistakes but hopefully show wat they've got.
