I'm usually quite indifferent to rugby, but that was brilliant entertainment. Superb try by South Africa in the dying moments but it wasn't quite enough.
Two decent games today. Wales gave Ireland a bit of a scare, and England just about held on, courtesy of that missed conversion - but the try was in the corner so the angle was always going to be tight.
I find it mad that England won't allow English born who play abroad to play but will allow foreigners who have lived here a few years.
They're trying to ' encourage' the best players to stay in the Premiership rather than going into French rugby for the better pay.
I was once lucky enough to be invited to the end of season awards dinner of the "Finnish" national cricket team. I should have put 2 and 2 together when my mate who invited me checked that me and the missus were fine with spicy food. Turns out Finland gives you citizenship if you can play a sport on an international level. Which if you're one of the only people in the country who actually plays that sport, is suddenly not such an insurmountable challenge. Just join the world governing federation for your chosen sport, and get playing.
I get it, but it just feels contradictory. The best English players should be playing for England regardless of where they live/work imho.
Talk of playing for one's country of residence rather than birth always makes me think of France's soon to be ended reign as Olympic cricket silver medalists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket_at_the_Summer_Olympics).
