    4. Offences and sanctions
    If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play.

    My understanding is it's if someone is in an offside position and then comes back into their own half and gets involved in play for the ball without ever having got back into an onside position. I'm not sure that's what happened then, though.
