Nobody has scored more football league goals than Davis Keillor-Dunn.

When do we start referring to him as a striker?

Apologies for the vaguely positive post.

Good stat, which puts me on to the point of I miss your pre match threads that you were doing at the start of the season. If you manage to have the time and energy please start again :D

Best goalscoring striker we’ve signed since Sam Winnall.
It’s getting more and more difficult to sign goal scorers as naturally every team wants them so credit to our recruitment team for getting their man last summer.

I mean, before joining us he had played much of his career as an attacking midfielder. Or ‘number 10’ as the kids say. ‘In the hole’ was the old terminology. Similar to Marcelle, Hignett, Butterfield etc where the player had no defined midfield or forward role. The player would float around in the spaces.

According to WhoScored, he’s played in a number of positions this season but by and large, down the middle as a support or second striker. So yes, I think we can call him a striker.

He’s definitely scored a good amount of goals with quite a few being very easy on the eye. I think he’s more McAtee than Cole. It was never going to be easy to replace both of them but it appears the club hoped that one of Watters or Cosgrove would be adequate, with Humphrys signed to give us a wide option if playing more of a 3-4-3.

I enjoy watching him. He’s not in the class of a Clint, Craig or Jacob. This is the third division after all, but I’d argue he’s better than McAtee. And ours. On a long term deal at a good age. Which shows the recruitment can pick up good players, we just can’t afford to sign 20 of them.

Cauley Woodrow was much better than Winnall. And I say that as a big fan of both.

We can definitely call him a striker but he's more of a deep lying one, not a box poacher type.
Most of his goals are from 20 yards plus.
Not a criticism by the way. He's been a brilliant signing.

Different players altogether for me. I preferred Winnall, just the sort of goal scorer we lack now.
Shame he left the way he did and where he went.

So if we’re calling players strikers, who can hit the ball well and chip in with a few goals, it seems all these years that Neil Redfearn was a striker and we never knew it.

Think the only thing stopping DKD from playing for a top championship club is his lack of pace

DKD is one of those players who gets you on the edge of your seat, or your feet, as soon as he gets the ball anywhere near the penalty box. You just know the ball's heading for the corner of the net and it doesn't matter which foot he shoots with. He's a PROPER goalscorer.

Don't know about anybody else but I'd call that the definition of a top striker. You don't have to be over six feet tall and strong enough to knock defenders about. He is elegance on the ball and we are lucky to have managed to prise him away from Mansfield. Clough will be spitting feathers now that he has seen what is developing. He'll regret not holding out for a few million. Stansfield at Brum is even smaller and lighter and he's doing alright and went for a stupid amount of money. DKD will be our next big money sale, but not for a while :)

Think Winnall was a better goalscorer but Woodrow's all round play was better. DKD is fantastic - plays the game with a smile on his face

Does anyone have any stats for DKDs shooting accuracy? He more often than not seems to work the keeper than flash shots into the crowd, and with both feet too.

He did say in an interview that chances are rare, so he always tries to make the most of each one, and it seems he does manage to convert most of what comes his way.

Not only does he hit the target, but he hits the ball incredibly hard. I was in line with his second goal last night and he still had it all to do, but the pace on the ball gave the keeper no chance.

I think he'd be even better playing on the left of a 3 like he did those first few games. He's been great but reckon he could create more too out there with someone half decent up there too.

    He’s a goalscorer but he isn’t a striker.

    He’s not a sniffer, a poacher.

But it isn’t the goalscoring of an out and out nine the team is crying out for. We need someone as an outlet, to ease the pressure, hold the ball up, work the channels, occupy defenders. Keep the ball, make runs to create space, a bit of muscle and physicality.

We don’t necessarily need a twenty five goal a season man; DKD, Phillips, even Russell will all chip in a fair few from deeper. More than they have already with a proper link up man probably.

The team lacks the balance a proper centre forward brings, not necessarily the goals primarily.

Wouldn’t say altogether, but I get what you mean.

Winnall scored 19 league goals in 15/16 (24 all comps in 56 games), Woodrow got 16 league goals in 18/19 (19 all comps in 36 games). I think Sam got a bad injury 18 months after leaving us and was never quite the same player. Whereas Cauley continued to thrive with back-to-back 15-goal Championship campaigns for us, signing a new deal etc. Definitely gets my vote. Not a bad argument to have!

Cole got 18 was it last season?

I hope Davis finally cracks that 20 league goal season. Another 8 from 13 needed. He’s currently on a run of 8 from 14 so not impossible.

    Not bad for a non-striker.
