Apparently there's calls in Ukraine (members of their parliament) to commence impeachment proceedings against Zelensky

Clearly there's differing views of the exchange between Trump, Vance and Zelensky. Personally, I couldn't care less who makes whoever else looks childish, or bullies whoever else as long as the fighting stops. It's not a game, people are dying. Whatever the cause, whoever is at fault, it doesn't matter at this moment in time. Just get an agreement in place that stops young lads from being slaughtered on both sides. The blaming and finger pointing can wait.

And bizarrely one of those signatories was a homicidal imbecile who'd been duped by the other homicidal imbecile who broke the deal. BUT...not thinking the orange nappy wearer reads history books

I've no idea. Again, I honestly don't care. The war needs to stop. I don't care who stops it. I don't care who is pointing fingers, I don't care what they're accused of. There's one, giant, glaring issue facing Europe right now. It's not Trump, it's not Zelensky, it's not some randomer wanting Zelensky impeached.... It's the war.

All the other stuff pails into insignificance in the face of all of the deaths, some of which will be occuring as I type this reply.

What on Earth has happened to people? There's page upon page on this very board debating Trump, Putin, Zelensky etc none of it matters. Young lads, perhaps whole generations once this is all said and done, are and will be gone. It's a humanitarian tragedy the likes of which not seen since WWII. Can we not agree that we should be focused on stopping the killing immediately? Frankly, by any means necessary. Once that's achieved the talking suits can argue amongst themselves til doomsday about who owns what bit of dirt and who is more evil than the other.

Everyone has completely lost the plot to my mind.

The people who have lost the plot are those who think that handing over ANOTHER part of your country to Putin will stop him. Did it stop him when he did the same with crimes? Why will it now? Why will it stop Ukrainians from dying? What will stop him starting again and killing more and demanding more land?

You're right we should be stopping the killing immediately. By forcing the lovely person to stop. Not by going on TV telling everyone that he's in the right and telling everyone that you'll step aside and allow it to happen

Absolutely spot on. Understandably there was widespread fear when Putin invaded, it was the reasonable perception that Russia possessed the strongest military forces in Europe, but 3 years on he's further away from regime change and victory than he was in the first months of the war, that initial perception of strength is proven to be unfounded.

Putin has lost a previously unimaginable number of troops and equipment.
The UK Defence Journal quoted Ukraines claim of Russian losses to be :
    • 9,859 tanks,
    • 20,545 armoured fighting vehicles
    • 22,309 artillery systems and 1,263 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).
    • 1,050 anti-aircraft warfare systems
Oryx the open source Dutch site attributes approximately half the losses, but can only count visually verifiable statistics The exact figure is between the two, but still massively significant.
What is far less disputed are the following air and naval losses.

''The skies have also been costly for Russia, with Ukrainian defenders bringing down 369 planes and 331 helicopters since the start of the war. Meanwhile, 23,213 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been shot down, an increase of 51 within the last day.

Russian naval forces have also faced setbacks, losing 28 warships and boats, including the once-flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva. Ukrainian forces have even destroyed a Russian submarine, further highlighting the vulnerabilities of the Russian military.''

Unwittingly Putin's SMO has resulted in more than halving his military power...a military power that has been a partially veiled threat to his European neighbours...Sweden and Finland don't give up years of neutrality and join NATO for no good reason, this all was unthinkable before Putin invaded. That lost equipment and experienced manpower will take many years to rebuild, even if Russia has the money.
If America is now out of it, so be it ..there's probably nothing that can be done to retrieve it, so the rest of Nato, and Europe must act independently of the USA and in their own collective interests and must step up and give Ukraine the equipment to put Putin back in his box for years to come...the job is already more than half done.
Europe can do a lot more, some of the most populous and richest nations on earth have done very little in terms of actual military aid and hardware for Ukraine. It's ridiculous that Australia has outspent many European countries...It's almost unbelievable that Austria haven't donated a penny in miltary aid, or that we have provided more hardware than France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, plus a few others combined.
Ireland, although neutral, recently had a 14 billion Euro tax windfall...it could easily give some of that as humanitarian aid and free others to use their humanitarian budget as pure military aid.
Europe collectively with help from Canada and Australia can do this, but it needs serious political will.

It was stage managed from the very first moment when the arsehole at the back had a go at Zelenskyy for wearing military fatigues...no-one on the fringes of any Govt would have said that in the White House without having clearance to do so.

So what's your prescription? Endless billions pumped into Ukraine? More weapons meaning more killed? Ukraine winning without boots on the ground from NATO and/or the US is impossible if we're being honest. And if that happens, that's WW3. I assume you don't want that? So what are we left with? A ceasefire to start, and a discussion/negotiation around withdrawal of the Russian forces.

Will Zelensky have to make compromises? Yes, probably. Should he have to? No, Russia should never have invaded. But we are where we are. Having said that, NATO has been sticking the finger up to Putin for decades with their Eastern expansion after promising to do no such thing. So let's not pretend that there isn't blame to be apportioned on both sides.

We can't keep looking back and pointing fingers. What's done is done, what needs to happen now is for the killing to stop. End of. However that is achieved is a price worth paying in the here and now.

If it were my Son or Daughter on the front line, I'd give anything to stop the bullets coming towards them.

    1. There is no compromise. I've just explained that they did that a few years ago and he's gone back on it and invaded again. A compromise won't stop him doing it again and again.

    2. It doesn't matter ome bit what a peaceful organisation does in countries that aren't Russia. It's no excuse for invading Ukraine.

Do you really think Putin will stop at Ukraine , give him an inch and he’ll take all the Baltic , which might well lead to WW3 , appeasement of Putin ,that you are suggesting ,is the worst thing for peace in Europe.

Don't disagree with you. But the current path of more funding and better weapons will only escalate the conflict.

Just watched that entire White House session. Vance was the one that inflamed it after a statement from Zelensky. Then Trump had the choice back his VP or back Zelensky. Then it spun out of control when Trumps motor mouth kicked in. He could have made his point in a subtle manner but ended up in a slanging match.

Just don't see where this conflict goes now. No doubt Sir Keir will end up dragging our children into conflict thinking we are still the great British Empire. It's all quite scary.

If rather they tax billionaires and we can have a decent, well funded civil society for all. There's no need for you to pay more, none at all.

If they won't be taxed then eventually, there will be issues of their own making...

Anyone seen the shameful scenes in the White House? Trump and Vance acting like playground bullies ganging up on Zelenskyy?

One in there looked and acted like a statesmen. They tried to bully him but I don't think they succeeded, he was dignified, kept his cool and conveyed articulately his position. Draft dodger Trump knows he could never lead his country like that.
It confuses me how Anericans are suddenly OK with cosying up to the "communist" Putin and Russia after the cold war, Cuba missile crisis etc etc.

Did you even listen to what Zelensky said?

There have been many agreements and Putin jas binned them all.

What is Putin scared of , nobody is ever going to invade them. Maybe he was sweating coz how bad would it look if Ukraine started to prosper as part of the EU and Russia having got all the natural.resources has spunked them all up the wall on weapons and not a lot else.
