BFC sold Tommy Taylor to Manchester United for a new British record transfer fee of £29,999 and strike partner Eddie McMorran to Donny Rovers for £10,000. At the time the Reds were bottom of Division 2 and given that Taylor was top scorer with 19 goals from 28 games, and McMorran second with 7 from 27, it was hardly surprising that relegation was confirmed with the lowest points total in club history (18).
