Stopped after reading the first response saying it could have been 2-0 if Coventry scored, but was blind to our own chances like when DKD should have scored after doing the hard part.
I was more surprised that they thought they’d played really well and nullified our threat. Apart from a decent start and that chance from DKD you mention, we were devoid of any threat.
To be fair, I don't think they played very well at all, but they really didn't need to! A flukey goal and that's it.
Exactly my point. I wouldn’t mind if they’d been really good and torn us a new one. At least we’d have an excuse for our defeat.
Just read through it - they were incredibly complementary about us to be fair. They thought we were a lot better than we thought we were.
They did nullify us - as a team we offered nothing offensively - DKD created something on his own - we were again blunt from set plays and our build up play was non existent - they didn’t need to score a second when they’re so good at holding a lead
A few of them saying we were excellent first half and up until 60th minute... Maybe our expectations and standards are just too high..?
One things for sure if they make the play offs there’s no way they get promoted - there’s definitely better sides the fact they couldn’t create much against one of the most unbalanced sides I think we have ever put out and including a defender who had only played for 8 mins before last night. Unfortunately just shows if we had been a little more savvy with our recruitment in the summer and even more so in Jan we would have been challenging ourselves.
I was impressed with the enthusiasm and noise from their fans. If we really are the 12th man, we haven’t been pulling our weight for many seasons now.
they came 16th last year we got to play off semis I’m sure they’ll be gutted they didn’t make us look silly - another clean sheet and 3 points for a well organised team
Theres probably a lot of truth in that comment Frog, and its always interesting reading other teams fans comments when we've played them. Maybe we do still think of ourselves as a big hitter in this Division, and maybe we (some of us) do expect too much.
I totally agree mate, we've got a reasonable core of quality players that would look far better if they were supported by some steel. After losing half of our first team and bigger earners last summer we had a real opportunity to reshape our squad with some solid targeted L1 signings but instead we end up panicking and with a bloated squad where none of the players really make a difference. A Paul Wilkinson type striker could have made the world of difference to DKD and Phillips.
Me too. Plenty of noise from the end opposite us, someone banging a drum amongst it all, made for a decent atmosphere on a cold Tuesday night. I went to Oakwell on Saturday for only the 3rd time this season and other than immediately after the goals, you could hear a mouse fart. We've got to do something, and I suspect being better on the Oakwell pitch is probably the key (revelatory insight, I know).
That was a brilliant run by DKD and if he had scored it would have been a contender for goal of the season. I'm not sure I'd criticise him for not scoring. It was a decent save by the keeper.
It was an outrageous run. And to be honest, when he did that final drag back taking out 3 defenders, I thought it was easier to score. I was critical of him initially, but his confidence is up and when he has the ball he's pretty much our main threat. I can see a world where he's gone in the summer.
They didn't use only 200 away fans for not creating a atmosphere yet at oakwell we say no atmosphere due to no more than couple hundred away fans
