I might be in a minority here, but I think that is worlds of wrong. They are punishing due to the injury, not the incident itself.

I’m not claiming it was clean. It was a poorly executed challenge, he was high, but he came out only with eyes for the ball, and he took it too. It was ill advised and dangerous, not pre-meditated and violent.

Yes, he endangered an opponent, yes it was dangerous play - and so a red card with three match ban is the right sanction. Thats what the laws say.

There was no intent to endanger. No intent to injure. No intent to catch his ear with his boot.

Increasing the ban just makes a mockery of the laws. It’s a fixed three match ban, unless the fa arbitrarily decide that isn’t enough and just impose more - via an ‘independent regulator’.

We need to be careful where the game is going I reckon.

We’ve seen this season the reds for Roberts and MDG, Phillips at Wembley the other year - not much in them. Hardly what you’d consider injury risking or endangering an opponent.

I’m not advocating a return to the time when Harald Schumacher’s ‘challenge’ isn’t a foul, or a time where Gazza in the cup final v Forest or Souness on his debut at Rangers get away with assault as they’re scared of sending players off - but the game is in danger of being diluted to the the point any contact is a foul, nothing is only a foul and no card, and that there can be no tackles made legally at all.

I think Liam can count himself as very unfortunate. It was trial by media.

Agree entirely. The Parrish comments mid game and the fact he played for Milwall too.

Goal keepers always came out with the leg outstretched in front of them when I played Sunday league in the 70s
It was a case of getting clattered ...its a wonder there's not more walking about with the side of their heads stitched
I wonder if the studs in his boots ( blades)had more to do with the nature of the injury

I don't understand how it has suddenly been doubled. It was a bad foul and there are loads of them. We've had players crocked for months and months due to bad challenges and it's only a 3 match ban. If we now ban due to the outcome then I expect to see many 6 game bans coming but it won't happen.

I'd much rather see them hand out mandatory 3 match bans for diving

    I have to agree here.
Was there any after punishment to Cris Morgan for his brutal attack on Ian Hulme who not only fractured his skull put him in intensive care.
If I remember he didn't even get a yellow card.
I'm still bitter about it now, and can't bring myself to be civil to Morgan whenever I bump into him.

He did get a yellow, which was the reason why they couldn't hand out any further punishment.

He got a yellow card. That’s why there was no retrospective action - the rules at the time were that it had been punished on the field and couldn’t be revisited.

If no foul and no yellow was given, he might have got retrospective action.

It was a stupid challenge. High foot rules are clear as day. He could have seriously harmed someone. He should be thankful it's only a six match ban and move on.

It's a nonsense. They make the rules then change them when it suits their agenda. If it was a league 1 or 2 match it would have been forgotten by now. Yes he deserved to get sent off but he didn't kick him in the face it was a glancing blow to the ear.

So what about someone sent off for a two footed challenge? Could break a leg. Instant 6 match ban?

Can't believe they had a minutes applause for him on 8 minutes last week at Millwall

It was definitely a huge factor that it was live on terrestrial tv. If it happened in a non televised league game he would’ve just got a 3 game ban

Horrible. Reminds me of playing for the supporters club many years ago and being tackled at head height by one of their players I had called portly. I knew he was behind me, so dragged the ball back to give myself half a yard, but sadly the big rhino wasn’t bothered about the ball
