Wouldn’t say Clarke is a bad manager and I didn’t actually want him sacked. But I would definitely now take duff over him. As much as that team was a good one , it only was a promotion contending one after the January window. We were in a league that year where three teams got ninety points plus, think he’s the man for bfc.
The only way Barnsley could get Duff back is to assure him that proper money would be spent on quality players and get rid of this spreadsheet rubbish. The manager must have a big say on who we recruit. And before I forget the salary must be decent and not a bag of coal and a blackies egg.
I'm not convinced he would deliver the ultimate aim, which is promotion, would we be miles better? I think we'd be better but enough to win promotion with this group ?I'm not convinced. I wouldn't be against him returning but if the board think Duff is the quick fix then they are sadly mistaken, the squad needs major surgery. Duff re-appoinred with backing and a change in philosophy, then we might be getting somewhere, but there's a big cost that comes with that, its whether the owners have the appetite for it (losing more money) or just want to plod on hoping to get lucky.
We didn't have Liam Roberts when Duff was at Oakwell. Brad Collins was our no.1 keeper until he got injured and we brought Isted in. Personally, I think Collins was better than both Isted and Roberts and a million miles better than Slonina or Smith have been.
Why would we 'go back' for a manager who kicked us in the teeth and has hardly been a roaring success since he went, would be nonsensical to me!
Whoever is the coach for next season....we have to factor in the summer transfer activity. Based on what I have seen, I would suggest our squad will be considerably weaker than it is now.
