No wonder fans are disgruntled given our pathetic home form across more than 12 months now. To be fair our players get a gentle ride from the fans compared to what it would be like at many other clubs. We’re hardly the most vocal bunch and the main tool of protest seems to be people just not turning up. Football can be a passionate business and some of our players need to grow a backbone and stand up to be counted when the going gets tough. At 0-1 yesterday their heads had already gone. Sorry but that’s just not good enough for the money they’re ‘earning’.
I'm a very polite shouter at games 'Goodness me chaps, try to get a grip' 'Deary me player x, that was a tad underwhelming' 'Come along now reds, things should be marginally better than this dare I say' That sort of thing.
There was a bloke behind me in the West Stand lower who shouted abuse every time Connell got the ball whether he made a decent pass or not, I didn't hear him have a go at anyone else. I felt like saying something several times but I really doubt if he would have taken any notice, more likely I'd have got a mouthful. I would estimate his age to be similar to mine, maybe a few years younger so early to mid 60s. Most would probably say I'm a happy clapper but I'll criticise when it's warranted but I refuse to get on the back on a particular player, it makes no sense.
Too late now, he should have been captain from start of season.....sorry to say but that horse has bolted pal.
Twitter is a good read right now. #ArtetaOut trending. 'the epitome of failure'. '6 years of nothing under this clown'. 'another season over by March'. 2nd in the best league in the world. Amazing stadium, class squad and a production line of talent, fresh off the back of a 7-1 away win in Europes premier tourney........... you'd think they'd just lost 3 nowt at home to Blackpool in L1.
They're mental some of the Arsenal lot. They’ve convinced themselves that the FA Cup & League cup are worthless & that the only trophies that matter are the league & champions league yet they’ve been up against two of this countries sides & have never won a European cup.
I’ll try my best to stay respectful, but this post is absolute drivel. It really is. Everton fans turned on Dyche in a huge way, it got hugely more toxic than it is at Oakwell currently, so your comparison is massively wide of the mark for a start. And you’ve been going to games for getting on for seven decades? And you are singling out now for foul mouthed abuse from the stands? Are you honestly of the belief that things are worse from the stands now than in years gone by? Yes we have some moronic fans. Yes abusing players serves little purpose. I agree with that. Though this isn’t new. Nor worsening. I’ve ‘only’ been going for thirty odd years, not seventy. But I’ve known it worse. I’ve known it better. I also know that what was seen and heard in the seventies and eighties was much worse at times too. But even in my time, there’s been plenty worse. Racist, abusive, misogynistic. I make no excuse for bad language and abuse - but kids in the vicinity or not it is naive in the extreme to expect it not to happen. I take my kids to games; I moved to the family stand in the east upper to make sure we were in the best environment possible when I started bringing them. There’s still some swearing even up there. Some of it probably from me this last couple of seasons. Saturday’s performance was one of the worst I’ve seen at home in my thirty plus years of going. I can’t remember them all and there’s been some dross - but that was up there with them, it truly was. Losing a large faction of the fan base is inevitable when things are so bad.
My history of watching the Reds is of a similar length to yours and I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. Well said, sir!
Seconded by me. This is my 63rd season but I’ve only been to three home games, for various reasons. It’s a long way from being the worst season though but I can understand the feelings amongst the younger fan base. Vile abuse though is absolutely out of order, and that includes playing and non-playing staff.
The four or five aresoles towards the bottom of the left hand side of the Ponte singing ‘We want four’ when Blackpool were taking a corner near the end of the match , they looked really pleased with themselves , I just don’t get it
Outeffingrageous f@@@ing spelling sh@ting bas@@@@ standards. F@@@ off out of this forum you f@@@ing f@@@er. Rant over as for Barnsley could not give a toot.
There’s a certain ex poster of this board who sits not too far from me in the West Lower who creams himself every time Roberts makes a mistake so he can then go on a tirade of abuse at him. Conveniently seems to miss the good things he does though. I would say I’m a happy clapper but I also have a moan too. It’s never abusive to our players though, I just don’t get that. I get that fans are passionate and want to vent but I don’t understand who that helps. Officials on the other hand, I don’t have a problem with the language aimed at them when they miss the most simplest of decisions.
Booing a performance, like the one vs Blackpool is totally reasonable. Personal abuse is not. It is harmful and cowardly, as I reckon few would say it to someone's face. I'm not enjoying this season, but still watching the Reds for the 50th season. I started as a 10 year old. I've little to say positively at the moment about the team, but feel the OP is right to raise the point.
