Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Darrell Clarke has been relieved of his duties as Men’s First Team Head Coach.

Appointed in May 2024, Darrell has overseen 44 games in charge of the Reds. He leaves the Club currently positioned tenth in League One, eight points outside the play-off places.

Conor Hourihane will take charge of the Men’s First Team until the end of the season. He will be assisted by Jon Stead and Martin Devaney alongside Tom Harban, who will step up from the Under-21s setup.

Chairman, Neerav Parekh said, “We would like to thank Darrell for his efforts in a season which has been difficult for various reasons. Darrell has worked extremely hard to try and get the team competitive and pushing for promotion, unfortunately, we find ourselves eight points away from the play-offs and feel that a change is needed.”

Sporting Director, Mladen Sormaz said, "Darrell is someone I respect and have enjoyed working with and I’d like to thank him for his efforts this season. Whilst a list of replacements has been identified, we will take some time to ensure the next appointment is the right one with a focus on playing identity, returning to high pressing and attacking football. We believe that Conor can help to create enough bounce to keep us fighting for the top six until the end of the season. We will also be working in parallel to have a new Head Coach in place over the summer.”

Yeah he needs to be gone. Was inevitable and right but he is just the fall guy for poor recruitment including his own

Sormaz shouldn't be making this decision he should've been the one following him out of the door.

Thanks for the effort Daryl it's a shame it's not worked out.

Can’t be many who would do a better job under the circumstances. Feel for him.

Didn't see that coming. Nice guy but not the man. Poor appointment from the start like Collins.
Sormaz should be getting relieved of his duties too.

Always on a hiding to nothing, Sormaz with 2 cracking windows leaving Clarke with an unbalanced squad of misfits.

    He should have gone 1st

Unfortunately I can't see him wanting to work with this limited team and this limited budget, I do agree though I'd love him at the club.

Knowing what ik can only feel sorry for Darrell thrown under the bus and given dross signings that made the squad worse in January

Unless there's someone lined up, then it's completely pointless.

    Playoffs gone.

The statement says we won't be appointing someone until the summer.

    Bizarre.

On a positive note, at least we have more than 1 game left before we sacked him

They're hoping Hourihane gets a few wins under his belt so they can give him the job permanently, so the cheap option works out for them.

Everyone predicted it, just didn't think it would happen this fast.
