Maybe he was just saying it as it was, that’s not to say he’s blameless coz he certainly was far from that. Things like number of mis-placed passes in a game must’ve been an all-time high for us and that’s just 1 example. Individual errors and players panicking is another
I am sorry that Daryll Clarke has gone as I feel he tried his best given the squad he was given to work with. However I think after Saturday and the home form since the summer previous to this, a parting of the way was always on the cards. I wish him well as I think he is an honest, forthright man if not the most gifted head coach we have had at the club.
Whilst this season has been a disaster the football is in no way as bad as last season’s Collins anti-football
I’ll admit I’ve not been to every game, but I’ve seen us play some good football in parts this year undermined by inconsistency and too many silly errors. Time will tell if the issues are due to the coaching or squad weaknesses. Darrell always seemed a good bloke, has a number of promotions on his CV, and I wish him well for the future.
Thanks Darrell, nice bloke u can tell he tried his best but it's a results business and they have been tragic
I've laid off posting sooner as the new has made me angry. I hope he finds a club that treats him right and doesn't treat him as the scapegoat for those that are the problem. I wish him all the best. He was professional when talking about transfers and is a likeable guy.
not surprising, given that many of them didn't look a lot like professional footballers giving their all and demonstrating any evidence of basic skills and forward momentum. Let's be honest, we've had the perfect storm of an average manager, disastrous recruitment (DKD, Roberts aside) and a playing squad unable to do the basics of pass, move, tackle, shoot.
Have all these players bluffed their way into professional football given they can’t pass, move tackle and shoot? I mean it’s a hell of a co-incidence we’ve filled a team (with a couple of exceptions) with players who clearly can’t play football at this level then…..or….maybe, and I’m just spit balling, the guy who’s job it is to organise them to play wasn’t very good at it?
I don't think having Hourihane back at the club helped Clarke. Ex Red finishing his career after his first managerial gig hanging up his boots early. Writing was on the wall back in December. The board were hardly going to back Clarke in January knowing they already had someone in house lined up for when results went to pot again. I know it's cynical but the club should have just appointed Hourihane last summer.
The more I think about it the more I think Clarke has been treat harshly. When I think about our matches I think we often start well in games & even early in second halves. To me it tends to be later in games where the fitness of the squad & weakness of the bench gets tested & tends to come up short. Saturday’s a good example, we weren’t bad early on but the longer the half went on the more Blackpool got on top & looked like scoring. Then he gets them in at half time & we come straight out & nearly score twice in the first 5 minutes of the second half but the longer the half goes on we get worse & worse so I feel like whatever he’s saying to them before games & at half time is working. For whatever reason, ability, fitness, discipline etc, they aren’t able to maintain it. A while back I was told that Clarke wasn’t happy with the fitness of the squad & wanted his own fitness coach in, he spoke to an experienced guy who has got a proven record of doing the job in the championship & at international level & wanted him to have the role. He then turned up at Oakwell to find out they had appointed someone behind his back. The fitness of the squad is appalling. When you compare it to Hecky’s side, Stendel’s side, Struber’s side, Val’s side etc, it’s in a shocking state. Even last season although we lacked pace there was nothing wrong with the fitness of the squad. We managed to turn games round a lot in the second half. A big part of it for me is bringing players in late in windows or players who are out of favour at other clubs & not training with the first team.
