He was coaching an academy side at Villa too, I believe. I did say it was limited. Regardless, I'm not sure how his performance as a set piece coach means we shouldn't give him the caretakers job given Devaney probably doesn't want it again.

Let’s be honest a blind man could see this appointment happening when Clarke got the push so although i haven’t a clue how it will work out i don’t understand any animosity to it.

^^That's a fair enough opinion. Not one I agree with, because I can't think of much better than Conor following in Hecky's footsteps and getting us out of the third division as both a player and manager. But I do understand the view you're putting forward and respect it.

I expect the board to learn from the mistakes made and ensure the next coach (whoever that is) is given better tools to work with.

But I still think a better coach would have fared better than Darrell has. I don't think he was maximising what's available. But I know some think the squad is useless and 10th is better than they expected.

    Opinions innit.

being good is more important than being experienced,

wouldn't have been my choice but it will be a cheap option, a few wins and the fans will be on board, if it's a disaster then can re assess in the summer, this season is over anyway

Yep and if it doesn't work out they've got a second opportunity to appease the fans in the summer.

Exactly this. Which is why, despite everyone assuming its his, I am adamant that I don't understand why on earth he would actually want the gig.

Davaney was taking a team into play-offs, would have been bold to have wanted to change much at such a crucial time. Hourihane has a choice to make - season's dead so I can risk shaking it up OR still outside chance of play offs better not tinker too much.

I don't think you can compare Hourihane to Wilson - the game is completely different now, with so many members of staff, sizes of squads, and people above the Head Coach who are involved.

The fact that the position is Head Coach and not Manager is all the evidence you need.

Danny was given a chance to succeed (and was fortunate enough to have Eric at the club to help him on the journey) and the pair of them were pretty much given autonomy. And a chance to fail of course, but it was their choices that could make it or break it. Conor has to comply with the directions from above, it doesn't matter what he wants to do, the route has already been dictated to him. And it's a route mapped out by someone who hasn't a clue what he's doing as far as I can see.

Again, so much wrong. He's an absolute legend, the way he represented and lead the team, the success we had. When he had that huge offer from Villa, you often find players just fizzle out and leave, no commitment to make sure they don't get injured and ruin their new start, not Connor, he was busting a gut for us, putting his body on the line to win a game against Leeds before he signed off.

He didn't con his way into this job, just circumstances. You can carry on believing the conspiracy ballhocks about him signing as a player though, to me it's just nonsense.

He's a bona fide Barnsley legend.
