I've explained what I meant in my post, Sambfc has explained the events at the game when Sharp was supposedly abused. I've nowt else to say on it, and no desire to keep responding to you.
Why start on the fans, yes we have some nobs like every club but why do people keep bring up the fans. Are all the Wednesday fans the same as the idiot who showed he was an idiot will the baldock incident. Some fans are idiots but people make out we all the same.
It went sideways because u implied that it never happened...the.point of the thread is unfortunately we do have fans who behaviour awfully
What are you talking about mate? I was at that Doncaster game. It was alleged that Barnsley fans taunted Billy Sharp about his dead son. That allegation even made Radio Sheffield. I was stood within ear shot of the most vocal Barnsley fans. You know the ones, the group that sing the most controversial chants. They absolutely did sing songs about Billy Sharp that day. But there was nothing about his son. There just wasn't. The allegations were untrue. And the songs sung to him were extremely tame compared to what you usually hear. I'm struggling to understand your motivation for repeating this when it was proved to be not true at the time. I'm struggling to understand your motivation for a lot of things you're posting. Earlier today you claimed you were leaving the BBS. I really think you should. As far as I'm concerned, you're unwelcome.
100% Correct. So do I. One fan did make a disgusting comment loudly and was shouted down and threatened verbally. At the right hand side facing the pitch. Close to where Billy was, near the touchline. Whether any others did in the away end I can't say cos that was the only one I personally heard.
I think you're being rather unkind to George Kerr, but, other than that, this is a very good post, with most of which I certainly concur.
The behaviour of some fans is appalling now but it is nothing compared to when I first started going to games. For example, I remember our fans used to sing ‘Barnsley are white’ when we had a team solely of white skinned players in the early 90’s. We then signed a black player (Dave Regis I think) and I remember walking to Bramall Lane with the fans singing ‘there’s only 1 n****r in our team’. There’s loads of other examples I can remember of verbal abuse and physical violence. The level of both is now a lot, lot less thankfully, albeit football at all clubs is still littered with knuckle dragging morons. I agree the abuse and the things people shout is pathetic but it’s important not to view the past with rose tinted specs.
Completely agree with this. I started watching us in the mid 1970s and there's simply no comparison between now and then in terms of racism, homophobia, sexism... it was barbaric. It's miles better now. Do you remember the Ray McHale game, the whole of the Ponty End singing that one of our players is a w@nker? Unbelievable. However, I do feel there's less humour these days and more vitriol, even if that vitriol isn't nearly as politically incorrect (down right disgusting) as it once was. But now it's internal, all the hate is directed at our own players/manager/coaches/owners. For me personally, I don't enjoy going anymore. I'll go to a game and then not return for months because I find it unpleasant. I watch the matches at home. We had a good manager last season who nearly got us promoted and he was hounded out. I used to have a laugh at Barnsley games and I'd confront, head on, anyone shouting racist/homophobic crap. Now the hate is all encompassing and I'm too old to bother.
