It's exciting, innit?

I know this gaff thrives on negativity, but you've got to be a miserable soul to not be excited/hopeful with Conor being given the gig. He might be **** but the hope that he can be great makes it a bit exciting doesn't it?

The parallels with Wilson's appointment, his history etc - mint.

Be great if we had a massive turn around and got promoted with Conor at the helm.

Do I think it's likely? Probably not, but we're only 8 points off the playoffs. It's definitely doable

Funnily enough, I was just thinking the opposite: that somehow the club has even contrived to turn something as potentially exciting as the appointment of Conor Hourihane as head coach into a damp squib, and I usually consider myself to be one of the optimists on here. The parallel to Danny Wilson is an interesting one - I invested a lot of hope in his second appointment, probably more than I had to spare at the time, and I was gutted when it didn't work out, so maybe that's part of why I'm wary of investing too much optimism this time around. But you're right, there's still some last vestige of hope knocking around in my battered psyche that wants to believe that this could be the fresh start that heralds an exciting new chapter in our history. I guess I never learn.

I think any hope, any optimism in this case is blind.

If Hourihane gets a tune out of this rabble, he'll have done an incredible job. If we continue our chaotic malaise, I'm not sure what happens.

The irony is that his second departure from Oakwell has been brought forward given his swift promotion.

I think my overriding feeling is one of apathy. I care. But not enough to really be vexed or excited.

To be fair, the entire point of supporting us is blind faith.

He can't lose. He's been thrown in, nobody expects anything and he'll go back to his old gig when the new fella comes in. He wins 7/8 and he's got a contract.

If we win 7 matches ignoring other teams we'll be very unlucky not to make the Play-Offs. Stupid thing is we can still afford three defeats.

No lose situation for him. Hope it works but he’s got his work cut out with a depleted squad.

I disagree, he can lose. He could get off to a dreadful start that makes people question his potential managerial abilities and how he does will impact his standing in the eyes of supporters to varying degrees.

I'm not sure I'd put blind faith in the mix of supporting us, let alone it being the entire point though. There are plenty of other things that go into the melting pot.

Your gaydar must be working overtime :)

I think the forum works both ways. Generally likes a good moan, but also likes revelling in the good times (Stendel, Duff) when there was more than a whiff of positive Barnsley posts. The good posts haven't been seen though since about page 784 though, so it's easy to forget they exist.

It's the common sense middle ground that's often missing on here. Feast or famine. I exist to bridge that gap. You Reds ........

What am I missing. Robbo says the players are to blame for the poor showings of late. Same coaches having to cede to the philosophy of the club. A 36yr old analyst turned DOF. Never having kicked a ball in his life to my knowledge. Same players to choose from. (Barring those injured) and if they turn it round, great, But until we work to the players strengths. Not the blind leading the blind. We will get nowhere. We have to compete for every ball. Instead of giving the opposition all the room in the world to dictate play.

Hecky only came in as a caretaker at start... although we had won 7 on the spin and in the jpt final.

But Robbo was being media savvy (IMHO). Players blaming themselves for the odd bad game is just about acceptable. I get the feeling a better man-manager wouldn't let thoughts like Robbo's be aired over multiple poor displays. Imagine Val's reaction to an interview like that?

As I said to you, I would have been inclined to see DC given the summer and start of next season, even though it is now clear he was struggling. Simply because I'd like to see us start a season with the gaffer we finished the last one with. But the call has been made, and it is not one I am going to lose sleep over.

Nope. He’s not exactly excelled as a coaches so what whats anyone think he can do it as a manager.

Here's another BFC example. John Hendrie.

I’m excited now about going to Mansfield and singing this girl by the Kungs; it’s the hope that kills but that’s Barnsley for you!

A 10 game job interview not bad for someone that's been in the coaching game two minutes. If he fails I would think he keeps his coaching role free hit for old Conor.

Thinking that Connor can turn round this ship is around is overlooking the fundamental problem. The squad is unbalanced, poor quality and has been in decline for the last three years.

Pep, arguably the finest manager in recent years is struggling at City yet we think a coach with zero experience, set pieces aside, is going to make poor footballers good.

Supporting Barnsley has always been a leap of faith and a birth right. Where we’ve had successful teams in the past there’s always been a decent amount of quality in the team. If Connor can get this group to perform I’ll be astounded.

I think the biggest hope is that all the players fancy him and raise their game accordingly. I mean, I know I do…

All serviceable footballers at upper third tier level, most of them already proven as being so. Anyone competent should be getting much more of a tune out of them.
