In fairness, he was just a name I plucked from successful managers. He has spent some money (which club hasn’t?) but has won a lot of trophies in his time.
Still Clarke's fault though innit?! I hope he's on the beers tonight and laughing his head off at how **** we are.
Yeah one of our best results of the season actually. It came after an Intl break, and they were in form at the time, after appointing Steve Bruce. But its just been too inconsistent since then, and now it looks like the players have just given up on the season.
One day someone will go through the bbs back catalogue and create a thread titled 'Posts made when pissed' This will be in that thread
Look, I'm the first to flip my lid when I think it's warranted. But seriously, there's some mega over reactions on here. The season is over. I've made my peace with that. I'm far from happy about it, but we are where we are. Conor has had literally TWO days on the training pitch with the lads. No we didn't play high pressing, front foot football. We were never going to, we don't have the personnel to do it, end of story. Some of you may say, "well Conor should have said that we can't play that way in the pressers". Come on, how can he say that so early on? He's trying to get the lads on side and reinstill some confidence into them. I doubt he'd achieve that by saying "seasons over, squad is honking, see you next season". As for the game itself, yes, there were large periods that were a la Clarke and a stat I heard from our commentator enraged me (in-between his constant use of the word "potentially") stating that we topped the league standings for long balls over the top - not so much an issue when it's thought through (Val ball), but aimless long punts is a shocking endictment of our season, squad quality and poor tactics...anyway, I digress... As I was about to say, I did however, see some green shoots in that performance, however faint. I did see the lads run more, Connell especially. I did see them getting stuck in more. We did (infrequently) string a few good passes together. I thought Watters did well when he came on, despite feeding off scraps. Anyway, I'm cautiously optimistic for next week. COYR! P.S - in no way have I forgiven or forgotten the board and Mladen. I want the lot out.
The season’s gone now. For me, every thing we do from here should be about preparing for next season. There are so many things that need to change. However my single biggest worry is that Sormaz won’t be one of them. If he’s still here this time next year, I genuinely think we could be looking at a relegation battle.
CH can say what he wants about how the team are going to play problem is he's not the one who decides how they play that's the DoF as instructed by the Board. When will the fan base as a whole wake up to the fact that unless there is a big change in the way they run the club or they leave this board is taking our club on a steep downward spiral. The DoF is a complete failure he has failed to deliver every transfer window he's over seen his style of play if you can call what his squad turn out most games a style is a dire turgid attempt to play possession football using players simply not capable of playing that way because they can't consistently pass to a team mate even one that's 5 foot away. But the DoF like last season isn't the one to pay for recruitment which as failed to provide a balanced squad who are capable of mounting a successful promotion campaign which we were told by the board was the minimum expectation. The board needs to sack the data analyst masquerading as a Director of Football. Hire a competent DoF and Head Coach and do it well before the end of this season not wait until July like they usually do. If they don't act now we will go into next season in a mess because the likes of DKD Phillips and any other half decent squad members will be telling their agents to get them out of Oakwell ASAP.
This says so much more about you than Hourihane. I've somehow never heard CH speak, so was unaware he had a gorgeous County Cork accent.
I'd accept your defence of CH if he hadn't been here all season but he as and today was no better and possibly even worse than what's gone on before. He knows the players he knows what they can and can't do yet the players delivered that performance.
We sign a group of players who arent great individually and as a team. We bring in a manager with some experience at this level. Chosen to manage this squad. Now we expect a rookie manager who steps in at short notice and had no say in developing this squad to do even better than the previous manager with the same squad. the logic doesn't stack up. Any success is more about luck than design. The expectations however would for me be further decline, at best same trajectory as season so far.
