You could also read that Clarke was bringing someone in unbeknown to the club. Was never gonna end well if either is true.
It was discussed on stage at the legends night at the Metrodome a while back. I was surprised no one else has posted about it as there were at least a couple hundred reds in attendance.
Wasn’t it Eaden, Moses and McCarthy in attendance. How would any of them know about who we were or were not appointing as a fitness coach? - not that I disbelieve you just seems an odd topic of conversation from club legends with no current ties to the club on a charity night. I’d expect them to be discussing memories of the club in a more positive light. As pointed out further up the thread if it is true this sounds more like Clarke acting inappropriately than the club. As the employer the club would need to get a signed employment contract, evidence of his NI number, right to work in the UK and payment details. You can’t just show up and start working without going through the correct channels.
Fair enough, didn’t know he was still with the kids as I’ve not seen him on any of the pictures and the official site is empty for the youth team coaches. isn’t that even more alarming if it came from him though? Revealing mistakes about your employer at a public event. Or am I missing some context?
Dunno buddy, I didn't even know of an event! But I don't really do social media other than this place.
I should say that Nicky Eaden didn’t say a word. I don’t want to get anyone into bother & he definitely didn’t join in the conversation. Andy Liddell is the fitness coach who was also one of the legends. They asked him what he was up to & he said he was a fitness coach that is currently out of work & Mick McCarthy sang his praises as he’s had him at Ipswich & later with the Republic of Ireland & that he had spoke to Clarke about him & Clarke wanted Liddell to get the job. From how McCarthy spoke about Clarke it seems like they’re in fairly regular contact. I don’t know the in’s & out’s about who they appointed instead & how it came about. McCarthy was more making a general point of how managers should be able to manage & recruit their own players & staff.
Nicky didn’t say a word. I’ve now posted what happened as I don’t want it looking as if Nicky said anything bad about the club when he didn’t.
So it could just be as simple as the club and Liddell couldn’t agree terms? Thats a lot different to them appointing someone behind his back
The impression given was that it wasn’t anything to do with terms & that people above Clarke decided to appoint someone else. Of course Clarke could have got it completely wrong & messed Liddell & McCarthy about but I find it hard to believe he sounded him out for the job unless he believed he had a say in it.
He messaged me, Lidds, late last summer saying he was back in the country and available for any kind of hospitality appearance. I'd invited him to HOF, Alumni stuff over the years but had been previously unavailable, busy with whatever club he was at. He's like Nicky. Proper no nonsense bloke and I loved him as a player for that same energy. Both are heroes to me. Shame that he didn't get a gig at BFC, the more folk like that in the club the better. In my humble opinion/experience.
