Started 18 league games in one of the best seasons we've ever had. You'd think, therefore, he'd be remembered extremely fondly. But to be honest, although I know his name and I know he played that season, I barely remember anything else about him. He played and we were crap. He left and we got very, very good. And it's the second half of the season that hold all the memories.
I remember he made the league one team of the season & on here we were saying he was probably our 4th best right back that season behind Bree, Williams & even Scowen when he moved there for the last few games
My memory of him was more about his lack of motivation to push on in football. He openly talked about this. I think even back then he had his fashion business higher up his priority list. Seems like the right choice.
Wasn't he disparaging about his time here or am I conflating this with some of the noise from Leroy Lita etc?
I remember him vaguely, he started the clothing business while still playing football. Didn't play many games for us played more for wigan that season who won the league. Fair play to him done well for himself, better than he could have playing football.
He made 18 starts in the league for us plus 1 sub appearance. 1 FA Cup start, 1 League Cup start, and 5 starts in the cup we went on to win. 14 league starts and 5 sub appearances for Wigan.
Fair enough played a few games for both. I thought he played more for wigan as he got in the team of the season and he wasn't really stand out for us.
He's done brilliantly well and should be applauded. People are actually buying his rubbish clothing. Must be a market for it.
I didn't think he was stand out for us either and I was surprised to learn he made team of the season. I only found out today. I don't have any memories of him being crap, just, well, nothing really. I didn't even know, until looking him up just now, that he came on as a sub at half time in the famous 4-1 victory over Wigan at their place. I was there, it was a fabulous day, but his introduction had zero impact on me, even at the time. He only played one further game in his career after that Wigan game.
