One of England's all time greatest goals - scored by a Jamaican, it's all about playing for the shirt.
It’s called pulling the bloke’s leg. As I say, I actually cheer the other home nations on. Even Scotland. It’s nice to see the minnows swim with the big fish.
Euro 2024, it has been revealed that just over 60 per cent of Gareth Southgate's provisional squad for the tournament could have represented another country. 33 players have been named in the provisional squad and 20 of them could have played for another nation, as reported by Sportbible. --------------------------------------------
And they all chose England, rather than falling back on England when they realised they didn't have a chance at their first choice
moving on and hopefully not getting ahead of myself re WORLD CUP. 'European' Nations divided into groups - is it just the group winner that progresses to the World Cup or is there a system of play-offs for Nations that come second/third? in their group.
Not sure if I follow your logic here - I guess most would have chosen England as their first choice - e.g. doubt if Rice or Kane would want to play for Republic of Ireland as their first choice,
Awful response, if you have a look at the 33 picked in the squad you'll see only one player (Guehi) was born outside England and even he moved here when he was one year old. You're gunna have to do better than that.
Aye that's my point. I reckon half of the Wales squad at least would have picked England as their first choice if given the chance
16 places for Europe. Group winners go through automatically. The 12no 2nd place countries into playoffs along with 4 from the Nations League, for the final 4 places. https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments...s/uefa-qualifying-teams-schedule-dates-places
I would imagine they were picked for England at an early stage which meant they didn't have to choose. Else they would have jumped at the chance to play elsewhere if overlooked, At a later stage of their career. Pretty sure McCarthy who was imo good enough to play for England would have jumped at the chance. b4 Ireland stepped in. Overlooked by England with again imo, inferior centre backs. At the time.
