Oakwell welcomed back some familiar faces on Thursday afternoon as members of our historic 1978/79 promotion-winning squad gathered for our monthly Luncheon event.

Among those in attendance were Allan Clarke, Phil Chambers, and Tommy Graham – all key figures in the memorable campaign that saw the Reds climb back to the old Third Division. Joining them were former players from our 1981/82 side, including Stewart Barrowclough, Ian Banks, and Colin Walker, adding to a truly special afternoon of reminiscing and camaraderie.

Held on the last Thursday of every month, our Oakwell Luncheon provides a welcoming space for our older supporters to come together, enjoy a delicious main course and dessert for just £7.50, and share their passion for Barnsley FC. More than just a meal, the event fosters social inclusion and well-being within the Reds’ community.

The Luncheon continues to be a cherished occasion in our Natural Cement Legends Suite. Our special guests were treated to a behind-the-scenes stadium tour before dining, taking in the many changes that have shaped Oakwell over the years.

We look forward to welcoming more supporters and former players at future events, as we continue to celebrate the history and spirit of Barnsley FC together.

Clarkey never changes, but can anyone provide a Left to Right here? (I know I should know them!)

Some current academy player I think. He certainly wasn’t playing in either the 78-79 or 81-82 side anyway ;)

Thanks. Barnsley-born goalkeeper, then. What news on Gibbs Island, Mr ET?

Nice to see Alan again. Looking older, but still alright.

    Thank you Alan.

I knew the three on the right. Tommy I didn't know well enough to know what he would look like now and neither looked liked Phil.

I remember his first goal for us. York City at Oakwell (I believe). He seemed to hover in the air before planting a perfect header down in the corner of the goal. It oozed class. We entered a different phase.

Great stuff. I’m always glad to see those who helped shape the history of our club, back at Oakwell. It’s important to retain those links to the past.

Well done, BFC. More of this please.

I’ll be honest, I’d seen the pic on X and someone had named them. I could recognise them all apart from Phil Chambers. I’d never have known it was him.

Was entered at Ascot on Sunday but the home straight is too fast so not running there. Entered in a novice hurdle on Thursday and Friday at Aintree but doesn't want it too fast. Rain about but looks pretty dry next week

Also got a nose hair with Bow Street with Owners Group tomorrow. 5f is a bit sharp but is a prep for a 6f race at Newcastle in April. May run on in to a place tomorrow but Lingfield is a sharp turning track to start with so running over a furlong less than ideal is a challenge

I remember that goal so well. It was like watching in slow motion as he hung in the air as the cross floated in.
