I like the pleasure beach haven't been for a while some of the rides are abit old now. Big dipper and grand national there's should be a place to put your whiplash claim in after leaving the ride. I read the article also said there bracing themselves for the nmw and n.i rise in April. Wouldn't be surprised to see it shut all together soon.
Isn't it run these days by the daughter of the former owner who has run it into the ground and made bad decision after bad decision
The esplanade has been transformed over the years and better than most in the UK. It is what it is. And you don't have to go. But for kids it's still the place to have most fun. Still the single most popular seaside resort in the country. Accommodates all weathers. Longest season in the country. As for the pleasure Beach. it is still the best, in resort, theme park in the country. I agree they've screwed up with the admission prices. Eg Grandparents unwilling to pay em so lost custom all round. Some people who slag it off haven't been there for umpteen yrs. It's not the place I enjoyed as a kid. But the main reason for that is. I'm not a kid, shut it jud. I still have a couple of breaks there. Especially out of the main season. Cos invariably, everywhere else is shut. Interesting read. https://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/travel/uks-rundown-seaside-town-350m-34929309
It was the first place me and my future wife went on holiday together when we were 18, back then late 80s, you didn’t pay to get into the pleasure beach, but bought a wristband. I’ve been back a few times over the years with the kids as they’ve grown up and it’s steadily gone down hill, last time I went was just after Covid and it was very depressing, if not borderline dangerous. I guess these days you can get a week in Benidorm (for example)for not much more money and are guaranteed sun and very cheap booze.
Went I think it was the Collins season hard to keep up to be fair we were crap. The weekend was OK went with Grandkids it was some international fireworks comp enjoyed them tis what it tis. Talking of pleasure beach my kids are all in their 30s now but back in the day when was wristbands I calculated how much it was per ride and they weren't allowed to leave until I was in front with each wristband proper Yorkshire man me.
Used to go as a kid when there were smart Guest houses on Central Drive. It's now deserted and mostly boarded up. Theyve spent loads of money on the sea front at the expense of everywhere else. The only time I go now is for Barnsley matches. Usually park down towards the Pleasure Beach and walk up towards Broomfield Road. Christ, that is grim. No way would I walk down there on my own after dark. Their fans have the cheek to slag Barnsley off whilst living in a cess pit.
Aww I've got many great memories of going to visit Lasher town lol. The Pleasure beach, and the Tower, and going to see the Lights, and the Amusements, and the Donkeys etc. And its also where Acid Man/Acido was created.
Blackpool is a great town, looked down on by snobs. We all wish our own towns had as much to do as theirs. The Seaview drive with Lytham one way and Cleveleys the other is scenic. It's got some really good eateries and in the past couple of years they have started to smarten up the back streets with brand new housing a 2-5 minute walk from the promenade. All kinds of new opportunities for locals are popping up. Including the new 3,000 government office and plans to have a uni there.
There was talk recently of doing away with the iconic illuminated Blackpool trams. It's part of their history. I haven't followed up what transpired but going to Blackpool and not seeing those trams would ruin the trip.
