Haven't they said already he's not the frontrunner? I'm guessing if targets come off he won't get the gig
Based on what? It's not based on his record as a coach at Barnsley because he's been part of a coaching team that has according to our owner massively underachieved. So far it's not based on his record as manager. So what are we surely giving him the job based on? That a few years ago he was a really good midfielder?
You think Stead will become Danny Wilson on that thinking , Devaney has been on the coaching side for 3 or 4 L1 playoffs , a Championship playoff , I don’t think he’ll be a head coach but should be caretaker ahead of Hourihane
I would keep CH but jettison the rest. Let Connor continue learning the trade with the view to eventually take over the reigns at a later stage. Let the new HC bring in a couple of new faces to freshen things up.
Probably. However I fully expect our “first” “second” & “third” choices to either turn us down, fall through or go elsewhere, & then Conor becomes the first choice by default of course. You know how it works with us.
I personally believe that this is exactly what the plan was this season. In fact wasn't it actually stated as the plan? And I believe it's done more harm than good. Imagine being the manager knowing the guy you're supposed to trust is actually eyeing up your job and your employers have told everyone that at some point he's taking your job
No quite the opposite, I personally would get rid of the lot bar Hourihane in some capacity as others have said. Other than loyalty I don't see what they bring and would rather the new HC have familiar working relationships around him. Fresh faces, clean sweep
Tom Harban seems to have taken on a more prominent role in the last couple of games. He's at the side of the pitch alongside Connor, whereas Martin Devaney and John Stead remain in the dug-out.
In Connor's interview, just after he got the job, he piled praise onto Harban, saying how it was his decision to bring him in from the academy and how he was a great help to him. He made no mention at all of Devaney and Stead, which made me think they would be sidelined, and that is what appears to have happened.
Do we need a Head coach just get a fitness instructor and a pair of booits for Super Sormaz he may as well tell and show players what to do and pick the side as well.
From my understanding, a head coach usually wants his own man as number two. But some already know one of the present staff, or strike up a good relationship with someone already in post etc. Lee Johnson had Tommy Wright. But Hecky was happy to have Tommy as his number two also, when LJ left and Tommy didn’t want to go south. We’ll airbrush what happened further down the line…. Daniel Stendel brought Andreas Winkler and Chris Stern with him. And when Winkler left, Daniel promoted Dale Tonge because they’d gravitated towards each other over six months or whatever, he’d been helping out on the training ground etc. Gerhard Struber brought Max Senft with him, and promoted Adam Murray, whilst also recruiting Tonda Eckert later on. Valérien Ismaël brought Jo Laumann with him and worked with Murray who he had a great relationship with. Michael Duff brought Martín Paterson with him, and already knew Martin Devaney. Neill Collins brought Jon Stead across with him, and Devaney retained his position as assistant head coach, which is where it became clear that he’s a club appointment to maintain continuity maybe? Who knows. Darrell Clarke brought a ‘keeper coach and Dean Whitehead with him. Both would leave quite quickly, and he was left to work with three individuals all appointed at different times with no actual links. So it’s clear that it’s become quite confusing. Conor Hourihane quickly promoted Tom Harban, to further muddy the waters. Again, from what I garnered over many years, a proper functioning, same hymn sheet coaching ‘team’ is very important. I don’t believe the coaches should always be out the door. But I do think whoever gets the top job should be able to choose who he wants on his team and in what role etc. I’d imagine it’ll look a very different dugout next season.
It doesn’t matter who the next head coach, Sormaz is still here and I am fearful of the players will will sign in the summer with that guy running the recruitment of both the players and head coach. Also tactics, it’s hard to be positive at the way the club is been run.
I agree and he has tightened up disapline, promoted Harbon and told Devaney and Stead not to get involved on the touchline. He has also made a point leaving the January deadline day signings out of the squad. Stormaz won't dictate to him and the owners know how popular he is. I bet he was told to bite his lip and not say anything and the job will be his. He will want to replace the coaches and half the first team.
If discipline was an issue as we are lead to believe, surely that issue covers all the coaching staff and a continuation of the current staff with most of the current squad will leave a new Manager isolated and vulnerable. Identify the bad apples in the playing staff and get rid then the coaches that failed to support Clarke and oust them as well. Unless we appoint a McCarthy type personality who you know won't stand for it we'll just continue on this course. The players who foster discontent will just go play somewhere else and we'll be in L2...
I have a feeling that part of our thrift and budget will be to keep the coaching staff under direct control. I would assume they see it as cheaper to manage that and make it a stipulation that a new head coach has this team to support him/her. They probably think its two expensive to sack 5 people every few months.
yes, unfortunately it's time for a freshen up of the coaching staff, if not one of them can spot that this back 5 has been a load of ******** time to go
