The Mrs needs a new ( well pre-owned) car The one she likes driving most of the ones she has tested so far is a last gen Honda civic having tried a 22 plate a couple of days ago. Its only drawback is the sat nat is almost unusably bad and they only started putting car play /Android drive in the facelifted models which have a much better display anyway. We could probably stretch the budget to one of these but she didn't like it to drive as much (they are all hybrids now rather than a turbo petrol and feel different. To pay around £5k more for a car thats not as nice to drive is hard to justify just for a better statnav) Just wondering if there is a solution to retrofit something or if she decided to go with this car its better to just stick the phone on a windscreen holder. Anyone any experience
We have a 22 plate MG with a really laggy satnav and also our 23 plate motorhome (based on a Transit van) has a factory fitted Xzent unit which is truly awful. Why are these modern devices so crap?
I've no experience of fitting such aftermarket devices. However, I'm flabbergasted a 22-plate Civic doesn't have it. Are you sure about this? It may not be wireless - you might need to connect the phone by USB for it to be enabled (you do in my 67 plate fairly basic kia ceed) but mind blown if a 22 plate Honda doesn't have it at all!
I have just fitted a Carpuride unit. These are a unit that uses the existing head unit for the sound output via FM /aux/ even Bluetooth on the pro models, although some car models (mine included a Toyota Prius plus ) do not connect properly.I use FM and the sound is very good. The screen is excellent,I use an apple phone. The reason I fitted this unit was because I couldn't fit an after market unit because the original unit is built into the dash and I couldn't find a surround to fit an after market unit. Have a look here. https://carpuride.com/collections/f...sGecxj-Ca2vksi-p9zOEa59F-T3-_6RsaAkiOEALw_wcB
That’s what the salesman said but we should double check to be sure. I know I can’t do it on my 18 plate Jag XF which was annoying but not a deal breaker even wired
I am of the same opinion as Revvie. I'd be very surprised if a 22 car did not have wired AA and Carplay. Double check because you can't rely on what the salesman says. Most of them are clueless about the cars they are flogging.
I have a 68 plate Civic and don’t like the sat nav however it supports apple CarPlay if you plug iPhone via the hdmi port I the centre console under the gear lever.
Thanks thats interesting as Id expect a 22 plate one to do the same will need to check maybe go back to dealer and ask to plug phone in to check
I bought our kid a car for his 18. Yes it was an old car. 2009 plate job. But needs must for the first couple of years insurance. I then bought him this Wireless Car Stereo for Apple... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DH1CZBMV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Android/Apple all in. And I'll be completely honest, it's excellent. Just like having a big mobile phone on your dashboard. And I've got a golf Mk7 GTi with android built into the dashboard. And this is exactly the same if not better
Quick question is yours the 1.0 or 1.5 - We were looking at a 1.0 but the Mrs thinks maybe its the 1.5s that have the car play option - I havent checked to be sure
Ah good to know it may be the Mrs is right. Might have to try and find a 1.5 just they are quite rare. I think she’d prefer the extra power anyway
Is it one of these @Farnham_Red ? I am not up on petrol Hondas but this one says it's got AA and Carplay in the write up. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202411276783505?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android-app But then others on AT don't mention it so I am still not sure.
Yes it is. I just checked the description of the one we test drove and that has an HDMI port and it says car play in the details so I think its probably a trip over to the dealer with phone and lead and ask to try it
