How anybody can Blame CH or the coaching staff for what's taking place is beyond me I'll say it again and again it's the poor quality of players and their poor attitudes that is killing us. School boy defending individual mistakes You all see it, week in week out The squad is rotten to the core Too many happy to sit back and take a wage rather than put a shift in He can't be expected to work with both his hands tied behind his back juggle oranges whilst singing to the tune coming from upstairs aswell, never mind, being stabbed in the back by certain individuals ( players)who resent him getting the gig in the first place enough said
But i was told his appointment was ‘a free hit’. I didnt agree with those saying that and as i stated then, he can only tarnish his reputation and has little chance with this squad of shining, putting himself on the manager map or even retaining life back to pre coach position. I find it sad now that a rookie manager and one with high credit in the bank with fans is in this position, really sad.
I tend to agree but because he came without his own staff & had a weaker squad than the season before. Set up to fail for me
I wasn’t being funny mate, sorry if it came across that way. Just never expected to see you say something negative about Conor
Time for some new voices in the backroom staff. I’ve played football at a decent level and sometimes you get fed up of hearing the same voices (particularly when things are going wrong). You then start to question the coaching team whether it’s in training, matchday squad or tactics. Nobody gets fed up of winning so everything is hunky dory when that happens. You obviously enjoy your football. Players not getting in can’t justify their reasons for being left out etc… Unfortunately, I can see this bedding into the squad now. It’s already started with Adam Phillips and Donovan Pines by the looks. I get it with YT that Conor might be a fantastic bloke but the only way he can stay in charge for me….is by bringing in his own staff. New voices. New ideas. The problems run much deeper than this……but solely on the playing side….they’ve lost the dressing room now. It’s been coming for a while unfortunately.
It's difficult to imagine how anyone could have done any worse over the period Conor has been in charge. Results and performances are atrocious and after a spat with one of our only players who could potentially command a fee he decided to go public which weakened the team, devalued, and almost certainly alienated, the player, and brought into question his management technique and ability. Quite the few weeks. But the style of play he has to adopt is being dictated by our major share holder who has given several recent interviews where he's made it clear how Conor has got to get the team to play. He also made it clear he knows next to nothing about football. His comments about the ability of the squad were as bizarre as his ramblings about Watters and xG. And that's where we're at, an owner who appears to struggle with the basics of the game is telling the coach how to set up the team. Add in the appalling recruitment and it's an omnishambles. Conor has repeated the owners mantra parrot style: press, press, press. I'm sure he wants to keep the job so he does as he's directed. We have a head coach, with barely any coaching or managerial experience, implementing the style of football that's dictated by some bloke with a lot of money.
My thoughts at the time https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/we-all-love-it.336188/page-2#post-3430497 https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/we-all-love-it.336188/page-3#post-3430667
Honestly early season at times we looked a very good side . I think it's the players that's demotivated and not being managed very well. We were not as bad as we are now.
Imho....for about 20 minutes last night we played well. It was the second half and we went on to score....Up to this point we had been squeezed and harassed out of the game ...second half started and Conor got us playing quick, incisive passing to get away from their effective high press.....so we can do it, just not consistently and not nearly enough. This again falls on the players....we were told by our last coach and Robbo that the players were instructed what and how to do stuff but for whatever reason didn't do it, when they trotted onto the field. Have you ever been giving a bad hand of cards and expected to win a game? You can't but you can play your cards well and be competitive. In short the re boot needs to happen....but we need much, much better players and a formation and coach that has identity. Agree....we simply cannot have our identity and playing style dictated to by people who have zero football knowledge.
The blokes out of his depth his coaching experience was zero when he arrived and to be given this mess is way way beyond him. What we do moving forward is the big question. There's no point appointing a Edwards type coach without giving him significant investment. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing but expecting a different outcome. If we are going down the youth/cheap option we may aswell keep Hourihane he knows the club I think he cares atleast until better offer comes along which would mean he's done a decent job. That might seem a strange thing to say given my first sentence but what else are we going to attract another league 2 coach who fails again at least with Hourihane we could hope there is potential of him getting better.
Thing is some managers will take a job on at a club knowing full well there isn't a bucket full of cash and they may have to sell players, but as long as they are allowed to get on with the job, wheel and deal then they'll find a way to get results. Blackpool don't have she'd loads of money but they appointed a solid manager who's influence will see them pick up more points, he had to sadly take time off due to losing his grandson they plummeted, now in the playoff mix. I doubt he'll be on a fortune at Blackpool, they average less gates than us and the footballing side had a 9m turnover on the latest results, so very similar in terms of what he'd have to work with.
But what he is and what your describing is a manager. Unless we totally change the ethos we ain't going to do that so the pool of 'talent' is much smaller. I can't imagine doing a job and you are given the tools to do the job but you very little say in what them tools are. It's like been a brickie and been given a multimeter and a pair of snips they are tools but not much good for building walls.
Having look Having looked again Bruce is a head coach (my bad) and they too have an SD so similar set up, totally agree though about being given the tools
When we have an owner who has no football experience but think he knows how it's done, and a director of football who doesn't know much about football and is an analyst and they are making the decision about how the club is run if we appoint an experienced head coach what chance have they got anyway without changes at the clubs management.
Who is the defensive coach. Cos if we have one. He's not doing a very good job. The fans can see clearly there's an issue with discipline in the sense. no one knows exactly what they should be doing. Ball following. Wrong side of opposition. Wide players given the freedom of the pitch. As for Hourianne. I'm not sure results are the main aim now we've nowt to play for. Injuries. Poor form. Etc. I'd rather him now blood young uns. Give em some game time. So, hard to judge him at the mo. A fresh start. Players who are committed to the cause. A few returning from loan. And a much better transfer window. Is needed.
