I'm probably in the minority for whom the first film that I link him with is "Top Secret", an airplane style spoof from the mid-80s that I believe was his film debut. We loved watching it as kids. Apparently he pushed hard to be included in the Top Gun Maverick film and it was very clear to see the impact of his health struggles watching it. RIP
"Souvenirs, novelties, party tricks" is still often quoted whenever a specific group of my friends get together. We all rated it as one of our favourite childhood films.
A classic comedy spoof from that era. Always thought he did the role of Jim Morrison justice too. That was one of our go to films when we got back to people's houses back in our clubbing days. RIP.
Whilst not a fan of the Doors music, I thought he was brilliant in that role, and I also thought he was excellent in Heat.
Yeah it's ridiculously funny lol, one of the more under rated comedy films of the 80s. But as others have also said, my favourite was Val's role as Doc Holliday in Tombstone.
