Those above him are happy with the style of play and the recent performances. He's also willing to sacrifice short term results as long as he's seeing improvements that'll stand him in good stead for the long term. That's speaking like someone who has been given the nod for next season imo.
I’ve not got a problem with him managing next year tbf. He’s got the discipline correct and has the pedigree which players should respect. There has been a slight improvement I’d say. But the squad is imbalanced so it’s not going to be turned round before the summer anyway. Whilst Warne is a good shout, I’m not sure he’d come. He’ll be looking higher up if he can, whilst his stock is still high. Wilson did it well after a season under Anderson - John Dennis always said when they both came in, the board quickly realised that Wilson was the better of the two. Perhaps the board have seen something similar?
I genuinely can't see anyone else getting it. For a start it's financially a sensible decision. Write this season off and start the planning for next year.
Not for the rest of season - I’d agree. Best to get these young academy lads bedded in and experience given ready for next year. Gives time to work out who can do it and who can’t. Nothing wrong with that. Yes good to win too, but you can’t always do both. Right now, we’re not going up or going down. Fans cry out for local lads to be given a chance…..
I think if his name wasn't Conor Hourihane, there would be close to a universal sentiment that the current temporary head coach should be nowhere near this team next season.
2 points, to be precise, and I do think that the second half on Tuesday was a distinct improvement, until De Gevigney's massive second blunder in two games cost us the match. I don't think it's fair to blame Hourihane for that blunder. Humphrys was much better than for ages, and so was Connell.
Perhaps those above him will be happy when we're a non league club too. They need to find a buyer and go!
so yeah ok accepting that that would have made it 3 points from 4 matches against teams all in the bottom third of the league. Still it’s only 2 points and the same point still remains. you can’t look better and then continue to lose. Connor’s had more matches now than when Clarke got his last win before getting the boot (2 games) Tomorrow is a big test
Of course those above him are happy with the style of play. They've said press, press, press so he's repeated press, press, press. I'm sure, as far as securing the job is concerned, he's done very well. He's ingratiated himself nicely. I like Conor, but him getting a job is not my primary concern. I just want us to win games and do well. Playing with a bit of style would be nice too. We still had a very real chance of the playoffs when Conor took over. We've had 4 games against poor opposition. By the sounds of it, he's sacrificed results against those teams and our playoff chances just so he could get a job. I'm not sure what the hell I'm supposed to say about that. Does he want congratulations? A decent head coach and a good manager would have told the powers that be that we don't have the players for the high press and we'd be far more successful adopting a style of play to suit their attributes. Provide the players to play a high press in the summer and we'll work on that, but until then, let's get the best out of what we've got. I find this astonishing. Not just that he did it, but also that he admitted to it.
It sounds like he’s doing a lot of work in the background that’s pleasing people. Clearly, it’s not exactly been shown on the pitch right now, in terms of results. Next 3 games all look tough too. If he does get the job, he’ll need time. To be honest, that goes for whoever gets it as we can’t keep firing head coaches every 9/12 months. Maybe next season needs to be a bit of a transitional one where we bring on some of the younger players and build for a proper push the season after.
Not sure many expect promotion next season without miracles in the transfer window. Most I think have started looking the other way after a thoroughly disheartening season and huge backwards step.
I don't think the point about a decent head coach is true. I think an experienced manager would do exactly that - McCarthy for example - but that's why we don't and won't go for someone like him. But you can be a decent head coach and still have ambition, see an opportunity to get your first job and take it. Conor fits what the powers that be want. That's why any umbrage at anything has to go further up the chain than the Head Coach. And thats why Conor will get the job IMHO.
It’s the failure to acknowledge anything is wrong is the reason I’m not renewing my season ticket, it was the radio Sheffield interview that was the last straw! They maintain this line they might just be in for a shock when the early bird closes and they’ve struggled to shift 3000
