As I mentioned on another thread. The "Cheap Option" isn't always the head coach being promoted from within. It's what the board do afterwards. If Hourihane is given the job full-time and backed sufficiently then it isn't the "Cheap Option". However, if he's appointed as a "yes man" to the board then he'd be an absolute disaster but you could say that about anyone who they appoint. Clarke's failure came as a big surprise to me and I'd have thought the way the board treated him and indeed Collins beforehand would put perspective managers off. Also the recruitment team doesn't help us attract a super dooper candidate.
